Nunez started the season as a sub. His impact was quickly felt after he helped the club salvage a late winner. He scored two goals to give Liverpool 3 points against a difficult Newcastle side.

After the performance, he resumed back into the starting lineup in most games. However, he started facing the demon of ill luck. Nunez was a threat to the opponent’s defense. But when he is in the face of the goal, he most times hits his shot at the bar instead of the goal. Nonetheless, he also had some poor misses.

As his season continued he found his feet more in creating chances. This allowed him to help more clinical players like Salah and Jota.

In all the struggles, he was able to still score phenomenal goals for the club. Alongside this were also his crucial late-minute winners for the club. But April came and everything turned against him.

Nunez’s poor performance started when he missed some clear-cut chances against Atalanta. Liverpool saw a lot of early chances to get hold of the game, but they squandered it. When it was time for Atalanta to see theirs, they took and punished the Reds horribly.

It continued in their loss against Crystal Palace, and Everton. Nunez also saw ample chances to give Liverpool a chance in the game. Somehow he failed to convert.

This has put the Uruguayan in a position to be scapegoated concerning their title race slip-up. Nevertheless, in the true sense, the whole team was generally poor. And also lacked a bit of luck.

More tasks ahead for them

Despite their titles hopes are being heavily incapacitated. Liverpool will still be looking to improve and show off a strong display in their remaining 2 games.

They did well by overcoming Tottenham Hotspur in a 4-2. However, they still have Aston Villa at the Villa Park next and Wolves on the last day.

They’ll be secretly praying for a miracle and hope they win their games too.
