Ipswich has only recently been promoted into the Premier League but will face off against Liverpool on its inaugural day in the top flight of English football. Ipswich Town had a fantastic 2023-2024 season, being promoted from the second-tier of football, the Championship, back into the Premier League to see if it can contend with the best in the country.
But, that might prove harder than one would think — which everyone already thinks is quite a feat — since they start their season back in the Prem with a tough match against the Reds.
Liverpool vs. Ipswich Town
Ipswich Town might have a home game for their first match of the season, which is a lucky draw, but their opponent is anything from lucky. Ipswich will face off against Liverpool on the opening weekend of the new PL season, whereas Manchester City will contend with Chelsea — two teams that are aiming to finish in the first five slots at the end of the year.
Ipswich had a great run last year, aiming to get back into the Premier League for the first time in over two decades. Instead of thinking it was just a pipe dream, they put their mind to it, utilized key tactics in the Championship, signed talented players, and never gave up.
At the end of the season, they ended up second in the Championship after having earned a staggering 96 points and beating out Leeds United by six points to claim second place.
Ipswich came second only to Leicester City, who squeaked out the top spot after a last-day victory, earning 97 points on the year. Ipswich Town won 28 matches during the year and came away with 12 draws, showing they are good at getting results when they need to. They had one of the lowest losses of all the teams in the league, losing only six games out of their 46 matches played.
Furthermore, Ipswich can end the season steadily and on a high note. They ended with two wins and three draws in their last five matches, showing just how reliable and consistent they are when they need to get a point, or three, to succeed.
Key players for Ipswich Town, who will be huge in the Premier League next year, include Al-Hamadi as their striker, Morsy as an engine in the midfield, Williams as an ex-manchester United defender, Davis as a valuable member of the back line, Luongo as a versatile midfielder, and Burns as an ex-PL player who can score a goal or two per game.
Ipswich Town Next Year
Next year, we hope to see Ipswich stay in the Premier League and contend with the big dogs. They were handed a challenging first game against Liverpool, but we hope to see them come out firing and be unphased by what the Reds did last season. On the other hand, Arne Slot and his new team will hope to claim three points to start their season on the right note.
Arne hopes to inspire Liverpool to score early, through Diogo Jota, the Portuguese winger, or Salah, the Egyptian attacker who has decided to stay with the club. Last year, Liverpool ended in third place but had the chance to win the PL. This year, Liverpool will look to claim the victory and knock Man City off the top spot.
