Liverpool Traveled to the Molineux to play Wolves. The Reds were given a great boost ahead of the game, with Alisson returning to the team. The rest faced off against Wolves hoping they could make it five wins out of six in the league.
Arne Slot had arranged a side he had been using since the start of the season. A win was going to sit them at the top of the table ahead of Pep Guardiola’s side. Liverpool eventually secured the win, however, it wasn’t a cakewalk. Gary O’Neal’s side who has yet to win any game this season troubled the Reds in every aspect making it difficult for them to find the Rhythm. Eventually, it took experience and patience from the Reds to secure the win.
Wolves vs Liverpool: First Half
Liverpool started the game a bit slowly allowing the Wolves to push the Reds out of rhythm. The likes of Matheus Cuhna, Mario Lemina, and Bellegarde, all troubled Liverpool’s defense. However, they were unable to secure a goal, as Liverpool maintained a disciplined defense. Soon Liverpool took turns, taking control of the game.
A squaring of the ball from Robertson found Szoboszlai on one with the Wolves keeper Johnstone, but the Hungarian was denied the Lead by the Danish Goalie. Diogo Jota soon drove down the left, and after a series of corners from the Reds, the Portuguese unleashed a beautiful cross after the run, the outcome found a beautiful Konate header, giving them the crucial lead, before halftime.
Wolves vs Liverpool: Second Half
Liverpool took control of the Second Half, and they looked to extend the lead. Wolves on the other came with the belief of finding an equalizer. They pressed the Reds harder, and they got rewarded eventually. A counterattack from Wolves was well dealt with by Robertson’s sliding tackle. The leftover ball was within the reach of Konate. The Frenchman gets caught by Strand Larsen allowing the ball to slip into Ait Nouri who gives Wolves the Equalizer.
Liverpool awoke from their slumber as they launched an attack through a combination of Mac Allister and Gravenberch, freeing up Arnold who delivered a beautiful cross to Jota. The Former Wolves was about to clinch a clinical header, but he was dragged back by Nelson Semedo. This led to a Reds penalty. Mohammed Salah slotted it in to give the Reds the lead back again
As the game proceeded Wolves sought after an equalizer, however, Liverpool’s discipline at the back was solid as they won most duels at the back. Eventually, the Merseyside club won, taking them to the top of the table.
Man of the Match Performance
Liverpool had a lower performance attacking-wise, however, they were very solid defensively. They couldn’t create more chances, and they managed to dominate in the middle. With the likes of Trent and Robertson making good defensive covers. Also, Konate was very solid along with his partner Van Dijk.
In the middle Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, and Gravenberch couldn’t do much going forward as Wolves were very aggressive and disciplined. However, they gave the Wolves a tough time getting their half and dominating. The best midfielder for the Reds was Ryan Gravenberch who was outstanding once again.
