Lionel Messi the Argentinian World Cup-winning legend has been voted the Major Soccer League Player of the Month for the first time since his prolific move to the American club. During April, the Maestro managed a whopping 10 goals contribution coming from a mere four games appearance totaling 315 minutes. This comes to an average of one goal and one assist in each match played. He is truly the Goat.
Out of the 12 goals scored in April Lionel Messi was involved in 10 of the goals, leading his fellow Inter Miami forward to the top of supporters shield table standing.

One of his triumphant performances came from scoring two spectacular goals against their rivals New England Revolution during the last weekend of the month. This excellent performance ensured Lionel Messi’s name was carved into the walls of not only Inter Miami but the MSL in general as he was the first player to have such kind of stats in the first seven games of the MLS season. What a talent he is.
Messi has accumulated an astonishing 16 goals contribution, nine goals, and seven assists from the first seven games of the 2024 season. No other player has ever had search a remarkable contribution. Truly outstanding. Just to put into perspective the other players who hold such a record were the Mighty Invincible winners with Arsenal Thierry Henry and Carlos Tevez back in 2012 and 2019 respectively where each contributed 13 goals while Messi has 17 goal contributions. This could have been more if it wasn’t for the injury that sidelined him earlier.

Lionel Messi’s antics have led the club to record heights as the club now sits on top of the MLS table with 29 points,1.9 points per game, a total of 26 goals scored, and a goal difference of +10 goals. In the seven games played Lionel Messi has the most goals scored this season with 9 goals and shares the most assists, seven assists putting him in contention for the golden boot awarded to the top scorer. If his performance continues on such an upward trajectory, he will surely be named Player of the Season.
Messi follows the path of his fellow current and former teammate Luiz Suarez who is the only player from Inter Miami to ever be awarded Player of the Month making Inter Miami the only the third MSL team to produce two Player of the Month awards in a season. First, it was LA Galaxy with Carlos Reiuz and Alejandro Moreno, then secondly it was Kansas City with Miklos Molnar and Tony Meollar. At the height of his European career, Messi had won nine Player of the Month Honors, eight with Barcelona and one with PSG making this one the tenth of such honors.
Looking Ahead
Inter Miami will be hosting the New York Red Bulls on May 4th, 2024 ET, and for sure Messi will be looking to continue his excellent form and contribute more goals and assists. This will place him in a position to win the Player of the Season Award.
