Later on, Lisandro Martinez, on his Instagram story, could be seen with a photo of Messi portrayed as a ‘robber’, with heavily implied, highly inappropriate overtones. This raised a lot of questions due to the suspicious activity potentially done by the teammates. Later, it was found that his Instagram account was hacked, but it caused a lot of initial confusion.
Incident looking to resolve
As mentioned, the meme was publically viewed on the teammates’ account. However, since then, the soccer player has not only deleted the post, but also wanted to make it known that he was hacked. It’s unknown what exactly happened. A locker room can often be the place for pranks and inside jokes between teammates. And it is often the case that something is posted and receives enough pushback to be deleted. However, the guise of hacking is then used to attempt to cover up the incident. Again, as of now, it’s unknown what exactly occurred.
Regardless, this is something that those involved will hope to move on from quickly. This is one of many incidents recently that distract from what is often called ‘the beautiful game.’ However, this goes beyond tainting the perception of the sport. It crosses a line that fans and spectators need to do better at avoiding at all costs. This makes the overall temperature between the two sides, and the game environment that much more disheartening, even after looking past the initial meme incident.
