After bringing in former Tampa Bay Buccaneers Offensive Coordinator Liam Coen, the team has been working relentlessly to improve. Cohen has been very pleased with the progress the team has made together. Will he lead the team to on-field success?
‘So Far, So Good,‘ HC Liam Coen Says
Coen was able to divert his focus solely to the roster this week. There has been participation all around from the team, including Trevor Lawrence, Brian Thomas Jr, Travon Walker, Josh Hines-Allen, and many others. The entire team seems optimistic about the future.
When asked about the participation involving the roster, Coen said this: “Very high. Very pleased. Very appreciative of the guys for being here, taking the time, knowing that it is voluntary, but it’s definitely setting a positive standard right now.”
After a horrific 4-13 record in the 2023-24 season that saw the team riddled with injuries and disappointing play from the team altogether, Coen has high hopes going into the 2024-25 season. He wants the team to be prepared come week 1. Full of consistent good play from the team.
Being a new coach to a struggling team is never easy, but that is why Coen is already preparing. “Before we can do anything, we’ve got to be able to show them at least we care, right? We care first. We care about not only the success of the organization, but also the development of the player,” Coen said.
Chemistry and culture are the first things to work on when joining a new team. Coen has instilled a level of importance to let the players know he’s there to help them the whole way.
“When they know that, hey, we’re here to truly help see you become the best version of yourself, both on and off the field, once we establish those lines, start to have more intimate conversations, well, that’s usually when you feel them start to maybe let the guard down and say, ‘OK, hey, I’m open to hearing maybe a new way of learning or a different way of doing this,’ and vice versa for coaches as well.”
Final Thoughts
Drastic changes were necessary after yet another terrible season from the Jaguars. Firing Doug Pederson was necessary after a disastrous 2022-23 season and a letdown in the 2023-24 season. GM Trent Balke was also fired. These moves show the Jaguars are going in the right direction as a team. Bringing in Coen is a great move for Quarterback Trevor Lawrence, which makes it a stellar move for the entire offense.
It’s a good start to see what the Jaguars are doing together, but there’s more that needs to come. This could be the start of something spectacular in Jacksonville.
