Leon Bailey Excited for Villa’s UCL Clash Against Bayern

Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey has expressed his excitement ahead of their UEFA Champions League clash against Bayern Munich at Villa Park on Wednesday.

Bailey, who registered an assist in Villa’s 2-2 draw with Ipswich Town last weekend in the English Premier League (his first goal contribution in five league appearances this season) is eager to build on this momentum. He acknowledged the challenge Bayern Munich presents but remains confident about Aston Villa’s chances.

A Big Game Says Leon Bailey

“It’s a big game, Villa Park is going to be exciting to see,” Bailey told BirminghamLive. “For the fans, it is going to be big, but for us too as players who have not really played in Europe that much. We are going to enjoy the atmosphere and focus on playing our best together, as a team, and try to get the job done.”

Both teams are coming into the game after drawing their recent domestic league fixtures. Bayern Munich were held to a 1-1 draw by Bayer Leverkusen, while Aston Villa played out a 2-2 draw against Ipswich Town. However, in their opening Champions League campaigns, both teams secured wins. Bayern thrashed Dinamo Zagreb 9-2 at the Allianz Arena with Harry Kane netting four goals while Aston Villa secured a comfortable win against their opponent, defeating Young Boys by 3 goals to nil.

More Tough Games Still To Come

As it stands, Bayern Munich leads the single league table in the new UCL format with a superior goal difference over Villa, though both sides are tied on three points. After this critical clash, Unai Emery’s side still has to face Juventus, Celtic, and Bologna at Villa Park, with away games against RB Leipzig, AS Monaco, and Club Brugge still to come.

Bailey understands the magnitude of this fixture, especially considering Bayern’s consistent brilliance in the Champions League over the years. “We know they have been brilliant in the Champions League for years and we are trying to be that team again which plays in Europe regularly. These are the teams you want to face,” Bailey said.

Bailey Wants The Best Support From The Fans

Bailey also emphasized the importance of the fans in making Villa Park a fortress for this historic game. “The fans need to play a big part on Wednesday. It is the first time Champions League football has been back at Villa Park for 42 years. It is going to be great,” he said. “Everyone is going to be excited about it and the message to the fans is just give us the best support you can and we will do the best we can to get the win.”

Aston Villa will hope to replicate their form from the opening game but face a stern test from Vincent Kompany‘s side, Bayern Munich as they aim to assert themselves on Europe’s grandest stage.
