There are times in the Premier League when it seems like players and managers are just rotated between clubs. If a player catches someone’s eye, they will be transferred or purchased within the same league. The same goes for coaches, physios, managers, and board members – if another club (Leicester City) likes what they have seen in previous years, they will try to poach you.
That’s exactly what has happened with the ex-Chelsea and Brighton manager. He has traveled from club to club, having fantastic seasons and some not-so-great years. But that doesn’t make him any less desirable as a head coach. Leicester City are now at the top of the list for signing this well-respected gaffer in the Premier League for next season.
Potter Could Be on his Way to Leicester City Next Year
Leicester City already had good news earlier this month, as they made it known that Jamie Vardy would be returning for yet another season at the club, despite being nearly 40-years-old. After Leicetser’s wonder year back in the Premier League, they fell short, getting dropped once again to the Championship.
Now, after an exciting year in the second tier of English football, they are back where they belong – in the Premier League. And they need a coach who is going to keep them there.
The club thinks that Graham Potter, the previous Chelsea and Brighton manager, could be the man for the job. He has been out of work since he was sacked, or asked to leave, with Chelsea mid-way through the prior season when Pochdttino took over as the coach. Now, Chelsea have a new coach altogether in Maresca – so Potter Could have been spared a tense exit at the end of the season, anyways.
During his time off of coaching, he patiently waited for another opportunity to arise – and so it has. Leicester City are extremely interested in asking Potter to join their club, along with Ajax in the Netherlands who have been trying to get negotiations started during Potter’s coaching break.
But, Potter might be keen to stay in England to continue coaching.
Leicester City Looking Forward
Leicester City are keen to have a good season in the Premier League during their first year back after being promoted from the Championship. And Graham Potter knows that the players in the squad, like Vardy, are key to the club’s success going forward.
‘He’s been one of the best there is, a Premier League winner. Jamie is a master of his movement, a master of his craft, lethal in the box. His movement in behind is so clever, he’s tactically really intelligent. He’s had an amazing career and I’m still performing at the highest level.’
Despite that quote from a few years ago, we think it still rings true today. Vardy had a great year for Leicester City in the Championship, scoring dozens of goals and showing he is not slowing down anytime soon.
Key Endorsement
Additionally, he has the backing of those around him. Potter realizes the quality of he midfielders, wingers, defenders, and goalkeeper on the pitch surrounding Vardy to help him score.
‘It’s too simplistic to say that. They’ve got fantastic players, although of course, Jamie is a Premier League legend. That’s fair to say. The way Leicester play, it’s a team effort, and there’s a team function where they have got players that can score from all over the pitch. We know that it’s not just a one-man show, that’s for sure.’
