LeBron James was again the star in the final warm-up match before the Olympics as he scored 20 points to help Team USA defeat Germany 92-88. The match was close to a toss, but James was able to pull through and clinch the win with some timely shots in the final stages of the game.
His contribution in the game, such as the final three-point shot, brought victory to the U.S. team after they had trailed in the third quarter. The United States has continued to dominate in its exhibition games, this time with great support from Joel Embiid and Stephen Curry. This game is important as the team prepares for the Paris Olympics. Seeing James step up when it matters most is a great sign that should lead to a boost in confidence for the U.S. team.
LeBron James Shows Leadership
LeBron James put up 20 points for his squad as Team USA triumphed over Germany 92-88 in the final tune-up match before the Olympics. The 39-year-old star performed well. Of the total points he scored, 11 were in the last four minutes of the game. It was a tough match for the USA team, especially playing in the packed O2 Arena in London. However, the team pulled through to win the match.
Germany was leading 71-68 after the third quarter. But James stood up and scored a three-point shot with 1:26 on the clock to make the score 90-86 in favor of the USA. He then added two more points to it and the match was won by him with a score of 92-86. Joel Embiid scored 15 points and Stephen Curry 13 to make sure that Team USA had won all the five pre-Olympic exhibition games.
Team USA and James Prepare For Olympic Campaign
James who will be among the team USA flag bearers during the opening ceremony on Friday noted, “It was a good test for us. And I’m glad we were able to once again, you know, keep our composure, perservere like we did the other day versus South Sudan.”
Team USA is fighting for their fiftth gold medal in men’s basketball for the fifth time at the Olympics in Paris. The selected team is comprised of 12 players and it is considered to include some of the best talents in the NBA. “It’s about showing up when the lights are bright; we’re ready and prepared,” Curry said.
The tournament schedule has the USA facing Serbia on July 28, South Sudan on July 31, and Puerto Rico on August 3. All three of these teams should be beatable. As long as James and his teammates continue to work well together, there shouldn’t be any issues making it through these games.
Challenges and Standout Performances for Team USA
Even though the team has achieved some victories in London, there is still a lot to be done. Germany’s defense put pressure on the US, and they committed a few turnovers. Germany was able to take advantage of that, which could be of concern to the coaches. However there has been some improvement on defense.
LeBron James was the biggest standout of this U.S. team. Not only did he do his job in leading the team against Germany but also he continued to entertain the crowd. James at 39 years showed that he is still a force to reckoned with as he had six rebounds and four assists to go with his 20 points. His timely performance included a dunk and a three-point shot which elicited the support of the fans in England and showed that James is still useful despite his age.
