In a shocking turn of events, the Las Vegas Raiders might be trading their superstar. Davante Adams could be on the move sooner rather than later. This is after Adam Schefter revealed yesterday on the Pat McAfee show that the team turned away every offer. Schefter said, “They wouldn’t even entertain offers.” Las Vegas Raiders Head Coach Antonio Pierce liked an Instagram post last night that rumored that Adams had played his last game with the team, then unliked it.
Adams ‘In the Dark’ About Rumors
In an appearance on the “Up & Adams” show on Tuesday, Adams stated he was “in the dark” about potential trade rumors. He also stated that he hadn’t spoken to Pierce yet about the Instagram post snafu. Adams also had a great perspective, stating “All I can control is this talk we’re having right here and after we’re done with this all I can control is the next thing that I’m on to.”
It’s not crazy to consider that the team has not spoken to Adams. Vinny Bonsignore from the Las Vegas Review-Journal stated on X that the Las Vegas Raiders were “gauging interest” in a potential trade involving him. It appears things could finally be happening and Adams could be on the move.
A Season Killer If It Happens
There’s almost no way that the Las Vegas Raiders will rebound from this trade this season. Trading a future Hall of Famer is an instant morale killer, especially when he’s the leader of the offense. There’s little depth at receiver apart from Jakobi Meyers and Tre Tucker, and Adams is a bonafide superstar.
It hasn’t worked out like how “Raider Nation” has hoped. When Adams was acquired, it was to set up the Fresno State connection with Derek Carr. Instead, former Head Coach Josh McDaniels detonated the team, something they’re still recovering from.
Jets Have To Be Favorite Destination
If Adams is going anywhere, it has to be the New York Jets. They’re not on the Las Vegas Raiders schedule, so the act will minimize any potential future matchups. In addition, it sets back up Adams’ former relationship with future Hall of Fame Quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
The other rumored team involved is the Kansas City Chiefs. Anybody suggesting that Adams could end up getting traded to the Chiefs must not understand the depth of the Raiders-Chiefs rivalry. It would be like the Los Angeles Dodgers sending Shohei Ohtani to the San Francisco Giants.
Will Las Vegas Pull the Trigger?
It’s hard to believe the Las Vegas Raiders will make this move. It would be an on-brand move for the team, and financially it makes sense. After this season, Adams is going to be highly paid but the team can move on from his deal with minimal penalties.
At the same time, we’ve all seen the Las Vegas Raiders move superstars in the past. Every single time, it has backfired spectacularly since they’ve botched the trade as well as botched the return they’ve gotten. The Khalil Mack and Randy Moss trades immediately spring to mind, with special consideration also given to the Amari Cooper trade.
Another Week Of Drama In Las Vegas
It’s never dull being a fan of the Las Vegas Raiders. They have to be the most exciting mid-tier team in the league because they’re always in the news with some sort of drama. Last week, Pierce accused the team of making “business decisions.” This week, it’s another round of trade rumors surrounding Adams.
Add to the fact that Adams missed last Sunday’s win with a hamstring injury, and now the rumors are running even more rampant. It’s possible that the team was holding him back to gauge trade interest across the league for the superstar. At the same time, it’s more likely that Adams is legitimately injured since he’s not the type of player to pull a move like that.
