Las Vegas Raiders Signing Former Bengals Offensive Lineman To Deal

Las Vegas Raiders sign Alex Cappa

The Las Vegas Raiders find themselves trying to reset the team yet again. Over the past few seasons, they have tried to build a winning team but have continued to be in the basement of the league standings. After one year of Antonio Pierce, the team hired Super Bowl-winning head coach Pete Carroll to helm the latest rebuild. While the quarterback position is the most important to figure out, the offensive line is also critical. The Raiders have reportedly reached an agreement with former Bengals lineman Alex Cappa.

Las Vegas Raiders Set To Sign Alex Cappa

Alex Cappa was a cap casualty of the Cincinnati Bengals. He was entering the final year of his four-year contract, but the team decided to release him to save cap space. The Bengals are gearing up to pay star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase and need the savings to do so. The Las Vegas Raiders were happy to sign a quality veteran. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the team is signing Cappa to a deal. ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting it is a two-year, $11.2 million deal with $5.5 million guaranteed.

Any signing seems like an upgrade for the Las Vegas Raiders. Many are mocking a quarterback in the upcoming NFL Draft. Rumors that Shedeur Sanders would prefer heading to Vegas have been swirling since October. Regardless of who is under center, protection is needed. A team can have all the best weapons, but it is meaningless if the line cannot block well.

2025 Outlook

This is a solid signing, but it’s hard to get hopes up for this season. The Las Vegas Raiders have the pleasure of playing in one of the toughest divisions in football. Kansas City has been the AFC’s representative in the Super Bowl for the last three seasons. The Chargers look revitalized under Jim Harbaugh, and the Broncos made the playoffs last year in Sean Payton’s second year.

However, these are the types of signings fans want to see out of their team. The deal isn’t expensive or long-term. If it doesn’t work out, the Raiders aren’t saddled with an albatross deal they can’t move off of. Every team needs quality veterans, and Las Vegas got one. Cappa has been a part of winning teams and high-powered offenses and can hopefully help build a better culture.

Final Thoughts

The Las Vegas Raiders have plenty more decisions to make this offseason. While teams want to win the Super Bowl every year, fans of the Raiders would rather see, at the very least, progress toward a winning product. What other moves can we expect from the team this offseason?
