Las Palmas vs. Real Madrid: Preview

Real Madrid will aim for back-to-back victories when they face Las Palmas in their La Liga match on Thursday in Gran Canaria. The defending champions secured a 2-0 win over Real Valladolid on matchday two, while Las Palmas suffered a narrow defeat to Leganes. Real Madrid saw significant squad changes over the summer, including the retirement of Toni Kroos and the signings of Kylian Mbappe and Endrick.

Mbappe started his Real Madrid career with a goal in the UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta BC but has yet to score in his first two La Liga matches. Los Blancos began their league campaign with a 1-1 draw against Mallorca, followed by a dominant 3-0 home win over Real Valladolid, where Federico Valverde, Brahim Diaz scored, and Endrick added a third goal, making him the youngest Real Madrid player to score on his La Liga debut in the 21st century.

Thanks to that win, Carlo Ancelotti’s team has now gone 34 matches unbeaten in the top flight since losing to Atletico Madrid in September 2023. Real Madrid will be looking to secure their first away win of the season in Gran Canaria, having won their last four encounters with Las Palmas, including a 2-1 away win in January.

Las Palmas, now under new management following Garcia Pimienta’s departure to Sevilla, is led by Luis Carrion, who previously nearly achieved promotion with Real Oviedo. This season marks Carrion’s first stint as a La Liga manager, but his start has been less than stellar, with only one point from the first two matches. After a 2-2 home draw in their opener, Las Palmas fell 2-1 to Leganes, extending their winless La Liga streak to 16 games.

Las Palmas will be looking to secure their first La Liga win since February but face a tough challenge against the reigning European champions. Their last successful encounter with Real Madrid was a 3-3 draw in March 2017.

Team News

Real Madrid will be missing Jude Bellingham due to a muscle injury, along with David Alaba and Eduardo Camavinga, with Jesus Vallejo also a doubt. Ferland Mendy, who served a suspension, is expected to replace Fran Garcia on the left side of the defense. Ancelotti may make additional changes, with Lucas Vazquez, Luka Modric, and Brahim Diaz all possible starters.

Las Palmas will be without attackers Adnan Januzaj and Pejino due to muscle injuries, and Fabio Gonzalez’s participation is uncertain due to an ankle issue. Sandro Ramirez, who has scored in the first two matches, may start on the bench.
