Future Hall of Fame Right Tackle Lane Johnson will stay with the Philadelphia Eagles until 2027 with the latest extension he just signed that’s worth $48 million over the next two years with $40 million guaranteed. The move most likely saved the Eagles some cap space as well which makes this another brilliant move from Howie Roseman as he continues to retool this roster and manage the salary cap for the future of the Eagles.
Lane Johnson’s Career
Johnson is a two-time Super Bowl champion and 5-time All-Pro RT. He has had a phenomenal career up to this point. He will continue to prove why he is the best right tackle in the league. Even though people love Penei Sewell of the Lions right now at that spot as well.
But I fully believe that Johnson has been the most consistent at that position over the last few years, especially in 2024, as he earned his second Super Bowl with the Eagles. You hardly see him give up a sack, let alone a pressure on Jalen Hurts. Johnson and the rest of the offensive line were the reason, along with Saquon Barkley’s ability, that we saw Barkley go off for over 2,000 rushing yards in 2024.
That dominance should continue over these next three seasons until 2027 for the former Oklahoma Sooner who was the 4th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft thanks to the tutelage of Jeff Stoutland as the offensive line coach. Stoutland has been responsible for not only Johnson’s dominance but the rest of this massive offensive line dominance. He is by far the best offensive line coach in the league.
Conclusion
I’m personally glad that Johnson is staying committed to the Eagles until 2027 and helped Roseman with the cap space. I look forward to seeing what Johnson is going to do for the rest of his career as he is heading toward the end of it in three years. I know he’s going to continue his Hall of Fame trajectory to probably earn a first-year nomination into Canton when he’s eligible.
