The spotlight is now on McLaren and Lando Norris as the Dutch Grand Prix of 2024 is fast approaching especially on how he will fare on the race start. Hailing from the pole position at Zandvoort, the biggest question for him is how he will be able to make a winning start which indeed is a rather daunting task. This pressure is compounded by his recent misfortunes of not being able to convert pole positions, despite good showing by the cars in Spain and Hungary.
He considers himself a champion driver and this is the time to prove himself. Although he was criticized for his performance in the last race he responded to his critics and was confident to do best in Dutch Grand Prix.
Lando Norris Responds to Criticism
Lando Norris’s post-qualifying comments reveal his stance on the matter, he shared that;
Honestly, I’m still up there with being one of the best average starters, he added. I’ve just missed out on a couple of races and maybe slightly worse than what it’s been over the course of a season.
Andrea Stella the team principal of McLaren has spoken regarding the steps they are taking to help him get better at starting the races. To Stella, the objective at the current time is twofold: namely, the fine-tuning of the driver’s performance and the technical parameters, such as the tires, clutches, and throttle settings. The team’s goal is to fix these mistakes, like the wheelspin that he experienced at the Hungarian GP because of the wrong settings of launching.
The Challenge of Zandvoort

The only GP place appropriate for overtaking which will be visited by F1 racers soon is Zandvoort, where the distance to the first turn is short and the tracks of Spain and Hungary are longer straight. The expectations on Lando Norris will be expected to counter the upgrade by Red Bull on the start systems and face Max Verstappen, who is on the quest to achieve a clean sweep of wins on home soil.
Stella has watched the recent start difficulties of he and does not notice that this person is making a mistake. He had explained that his starts are quite nuanced and that it is at times safer to back off the pace that results in an early-race crash.
In Conclusion
More the focus will be on how Lando Norris will be able to turn his start on pole position into a win at the upcoming 2024 Dutch Grand Prix event. This has not always been an easy journey though he has not wavered and is embracing the attention and using it as a springboard to fine-tune the business.
McLaren’s changes are meant to improve his starts, but Zandvoort is tight and has a difficult rhythm and Verstappen is an even more difficult adversary. Andrea Stella’s comments also highlight risk or reward and while he has to get off the line well, it will not be enough to win the race. The outcome at Zandvoort will be decisive for McLaren’s bid for the third victory this year and could determine further dynamics of Lando Norris’s season.
