LA Clippers vs. Denver Nuggets Summer League Preview | July 12, 2024

Los Angeles Clippers

LA Clippers and Denver Nuggets will join the other 12 NBA teams to launch this NBA 2K25 Summer League at Cox Pavilion on July 12.

The Los Angeles Clippers didn’t land in a great draft pick slot like other teams. However, that doesn’t mean we won’t get an exciting match to watch. Also, this is the time for the rookie to establish himself as a relevant piece of the Clippers’ growth plans. Some headliners of this roster are Cam Christies, Kobe Brown, and Jordan Miller.

We’ll get to see some bigs from the Denver Nuggets compete against the Los Angeles Clippers. The former title defenders got a first-round overall slot in which they chose Daron Holmes II. Jalen Pickett, Hunter Tyson, and the 2024 undrafted Jahmir Young are other youngsters that headline the Nuggets’ roster.

How will these teams compete?

Los Angeles Clippers

The Clippers No. 46 pick, Cam Christie, will use this opportunity to display what he has been hiding behind his sleeves. The 18-year-old shooting guard made it to the NBA Draft after playing with the Minnesota Golden Gophers in college. Christie possesses a good offensive skill as he averaged 40% in field goals and 39% in three-point made. During his college basketball career, Cam Christie averaged 11.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists.

Kobe Brown is the Clipper 2023 second-round overall pick. In his debut season with the Clippers, there was nothing to write home about as he had two points in 44 games. Therefore, Brown’s performance is crucial to his future as an NBA Player. The 24-year-old forward played in the G League for the Ontario Clippers. In Brown’s first season in the G League, he averaged 19.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 5.6 assists, shooting 50% from the field with 1.1 steals per game.

Denver Nuggets

The Nuggets’ big man, Daron Holmes II, will show us his defensive skill and how well he can protect the rim. The 22-year-old center played 102 games for the Payton Flyers where he averaged 17.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game. Also, the Nugget’s 2024 22nd overall pick made 59% of his field goal attempts and 35.8 three-point shots. We might not just see Daron Holmes II protect the rim as the 22-year-old could contribute massively to his team’s offensive playbook. Also, we should be expecting some 3-and-D skills from this up-and-coming youngster. Daron also has the potential to improve rapidly season by season as shown by his stat.

Jahmir Young was undrafted in the 2024 NBA draft event. However, the Nuggets offered an Exhibit 10 contract on June 27 which allowed him to participate in their summer league roster. This could be an opportunity for Jahmir to make NBA teams regret not drafting him. In college, Jahmir Young played 152 games in two college basketball teams where he averaged 17.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. Also, he averaged 42.7 FG% and 33.7 three-point percentage. As a guard, he plays good defense which gives the Nuggets team the upper hand against the Clippers.

Possible Breakout Players in the Game

Los Angeles Clippers

Jordan Miller will feature in this Clippers’ summer league roster. Miller plays for the LA Clippers and in his debut season he averaged 1.6 points in 3.5 minutes of performance. However, his G League stat makes him a player to watch out for. The 6’ 5 guard averaged 22.5 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.1 assists, shooting 48.3% from the field. He could turn things around for the Clippers with his NBA and G League experience.

Denver Nuggets

Hunter Tyson from the Nuggets is worth observing in this debut summer league. As a G League forward in Grand Rapid Gold, Tyson averaged 23.8 points and eight rebounds while making 43.6% of his field goal attempts and 40.8% of his three-point shots. Hunter Tyson could display 3-and-D potential as he defends and shoots well.
