Kyrie Irving Undergoes Surgery to Repair Broken Left Hand

Dallas Mavericks

Dallas Mavericks veteran guard Kyrie Irving underwent surgery to repair a broken left hand, according to the Bleacher Report. Irving, 32, suffered the injury while training earlier this month.

While the Mavericks didn’t provide the media with a timetable for Irving’s return to the court, an anonymous team source expressed optimism to ESPN that Irving would recover in time to participate in the Mavericks’ training camp. The 32-year-old played a significant role in the team’s run to the 2024 NBA Finals after averaging 22.2 points and 5.1 assists per game during the postseason and 25.6 points and 5.2 assists during the regular season, along with an equally significant role in recruiting Klay Thompson to Dallas, Texas.

Kyrie Irving’s Surgery Can Set Him Back

Kyrie Irving recently suffered an injury. Irving underwent surgery to repair the injury. But now what?

Irving should be cleared to return just in time for the Dallas Mavericks training camp. But, at 32 years old, this isn’t a good sign for Irving’s future with the Mavericks. He isn’t necessarily an injury-prone player, but he has had a history of injuries, such as his right big toe injury after being a strong contender for the NCAA Freshman of the Year in 2010, his season-ending left knee tension wire injury with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2017, etc.

In late 2019, Irving’s right shoulder injury caused him to miss 26 regular-season games for the Brooklyn Nets. However, when Irving returned to the court on January 12, 2020, his Nets debut of 50 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists was arguably overshadowed by his subsequent injury. He eventually suffered his first career postseason sweep when the Boston Celtics swept the Nets in four games in the 2022 NBA playoffs.

Dallas Mavericks Remain Optimistic About Kyrie Irving

Despite the initial setback, the Dallas Mavericks reportedly remain optimistic about Kyrie Irving’s recovery ahead of the 2024-25 NBA season. The Mavericks added future updates about Irving will be provided “as necessary.” He injured his left hand during an NBA offseason workout.

The Mavericks training camp will open in about two-and-a-half months. Irving should be physically all right by the start of the team’s training camp. But, for the time being, Irving’s out indefinitely for the team.

Kyrie Irving Makes Viral X Post After Surgery

Just hours after his left-hand surgery, Kyrie Irving made a viral X post. Irving wrote, “Tribe, Thank you for all the messages and prayers. GOD truly knew that I needed to take a break from Basketball after the long season and give myself some time to heal. I am in love with getting better at my craft, but now I must rest and recover. Hela.”

Irving, a Dallas Mavericks superstar guard, helped his team reach the NBA Finals for the first time since 2011. Although he, Luka Doncic, and the Mavericks ultimately lost to Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics in five games, Irving’s legacy took a turn for the better. He also helped the Mavericks wrap up the 2023-24 NBA season as the fifth seed in the Western Conference.

As you can see, Irving was a key figure in the Mavericks’ success in 2023-24. Irving’s accomplishments on the court haven’t only pleased Mavericks fans but also helped him improve his overall image after previous injuries, politically motivated conspiracy theories, and vice versa.
