As the NFL Draft is around the corner, many NFL and college football fans await whether their favorite players will be drafted to their respective teams. The NFL Draft will be in Green Bay, Wisconsin, on April 24-26. Many fans will be able to see if their mock drafts are close to the actual draft picks that will happen. Unfortunately, sad news has arisen.
Circumstances Surrounding Lacy’s Death
Kyren Lacy is a top-tier talent and a presumed first-round wide receiver draft pick. However, the now ex-LSU receiver will not be a part of the draft festivities. On April 12, he passed away due to a reported speeding and reckless driving accident. As he was trying to pass in a no-passing zone, reports also claim that this was an apparent suicide situation. This all started as Lacy was being pursued in a police chase, followed by discharging a firearm, ending in a car crash. Reports so far state that Lacy suffered from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and passed away on the scene.
Close to the end of last year, Lacy was involved in a car accident, resulting in the passing of an elderly man. Being charged with a felony hit and run, reckless operation of a vehicle, and negligent homicide, one would think that such a prospect would have learned from that mistake. Being released on a $151,000 bail, much speculation can come from this.
Final Thoughts
Despite being a highly sought-after prospect going into the NFL Draft, could this be the result of his mental health? If so, did he seek any assistance from professionals, friends, and/or family? Looking from the outside looking in, Lacy was on the path to living the dream of a talented addition to the NFL.
While Lacy, at 24 years old, had a bright future ahead of him, did his accident before his passing plays a part in this? These are questions that we may never find answers to as we believe the sports world should respect his family, friends, and past teammates who are grieving right now.
