Kyle Van Noy Having Breakout Season at Age 33

After re-signing this offseason, 33-year-old Kyle Van Noy is tied for 2nd in sacks, as the veteran is having a breakout year with the Baltimore Ravens. The journeyman has been on four teams, originally with the Detroit Lions, but has had his career revitalized especially last season. The 12-year vet had a career year last with 9 sacks but is on pace for double-digits for the first time. Van Noy’s longest tenure was with the New England Patriots for 5 seasons and he looks to be a force for Baltimore once again as a Raven in 2024.

Kyle Van Noy Best Value Signing for Ravens

This past offseason, Kyle Van Noy was on the free agent market but decided to come back to Baltimore on a new two-year deal. This might’ve been the best re-signing yet, as he is making $4.5 million per average annual salary according to Spotrac, and is second in sacks with 6. For a player that is right behind a young superstar like Aidan Hutchinson from the Lions in sacks, at 6.5, Raven’s general manager Eric DeCosta struck gold with Van Noy.

Baltimore’s Pass Rush Led By Veteran

Van Noy has been a great mentor for the Ravens, as he is their bonafide starter in his second year with the team that signed him last September as a free-agent star. While playing through an injury with a fractured orbital bone suffered in the season opener weeks ago, the savvy edge rusher was recently wreaking havoc on the Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen. Van Noy led the way with 2 sacks and forced the pivotal fumble in Baltimore’s win on Monday Night Football.

He is a great counterpart with the speed of 25-year-old Odafe Oweh on the other side, with 3.5 sacks, which is second on the team. The Ravens also signed veteran Yannick Ngakoue recently to bolster their pass-rushing group. This is while Adisa Isaac, David Ojabo, and Tavius Robinson eventually start to contribute more as key role players for their defense. But for now, it’s Van Noy leading the way for a defense that needs to regroup overall after a few rough weeks.

Final Thoughts

While the Baltimore Ravens brought in big names like Derrick Henry this offseason, Kyle Van Noy has been one of the better parts of a defense that was struggling before Week 4. The veteran could easily surpass his sack total from last year if he stays healthy, showcasing his toughness playing through his eye injury. He’s had 3 consecutive games with 2 sacks a piece, ever since their Week 2 loss against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Van Noy has fit well into new defensive coordinator Zach Orr’s team and is one of the pivotal captains for their evolving defense. For Week 5, he will get a chance to pressure an up-and-down Joe Burrow and the Bengals’ shaky offensive line in Cincinnati. The Ravens’ edge rusher will get to face former Baltimore draft pick Orlando Brown Jr. at left tackle and rookie Amarius Mims on the right side.
