A new Kristaps Porzingis injury was recently announced and could heavily affect what happens in Celtics game 3. The big man was a key part of the first win of the series as he put up big-time shots and was a fantastic rim defender. Now, the Celtics might have to go into game three without him. This could be very tough as the Dallas Mavericks will have home-court advantage, and it won’t be long before Kyrie Irving has a good shooting night.
Kristaps Porzingis Injury
The Latvian star was doing well in game two when suddenly he began to limp. The injury occurred after an awkward landing. It was obvious that Porzinigs was in some sort of pain as he made his way to the defensive end. Soon after, the center was pulled from the game, and Al Horford was left to do the work.
Today, it was announced that the new Kristaps Porzingis injury was a torn medial retinaculum. This injury is considered pretty rare, and the timetable for his return is unknown. It seems like it is being viewed as serious and could leave the Unicorn out for the rest of the Finals. However, this has not been announced yet. Porzingis himself has said that he will do anything he can to play. The Celtics game three will be a great test to see if they can hold off Dallas without their star center.
Porzingis’s Finals Stats
Despite his minutes restriction KP has been doing some damage to the Dallas Mavericks defense. In his first game back, he put up 20 points in 21 minutes. In his second game back, he gave the Celtics 12 points in 23 minutes. The center was hitting important midrange shots when his teammates were struggling from the three-point line.
Porzingis also helped heavily on defense. The seven-footer had three big blocks and six rebounds in game one. In game two, he had two blocks and four rebounds. His presence in the paint had the Mavs avoiding the area and he was very disruptive to their offensive rhythm.
What Celtics Game Three Looks Like With No KP
One thing that will absolutely happen in game three is Al Horford will be holding down the fort. He’s been one of the most important players this playoffs without the Unicorn on the floor. What’s important is the Cs continue to push the ball toward the help defense. They can’t let Horford end up on an island alone with Luka Doncic or Irving. Stun towards the ball any time a player tries to drive past the veteran center, and things should be okay.
On the offensive end, Jayson Tatum needs to wake up. It’s time for Celtics game three to be the famous Tatum game of the playoffs. The team needs to hit threes and cannot continue to put all of the scoring pressure on Jrue Holiday. This needs to be a night where the threes fall. Winning one in Dallas early could be what solidifies their Finals win. This team cannot let a Kristaps Porzinigs injury be the reason they fall up 2-0.
