Returning to Dortmund for Jadon Sancho has rejuvenated the 24-year-old Englishman. Since his return to Germany this year, he’s played five Champions League games, all in the competition’s knockout stages, and has scored once against PSV Eindhoven.
After two and a half seasons in Manchester, the young attacker’s return on a six-month loan to the side where he made a name for himself, has seen him enjoy an improvement in his form which has attracted praise. Most notable is his most recent performance against PSG where WhoScored rated his performance at 8.74.
He signed for Manchester United from Borussia in the summer of 2021 for a transfer fee reported to be around £73 million.
Jurgen Klinsmann Backs Jadon Sancho At Dortmund
When talking to ESPN about the first leg of the semifinal tie between the German club and PSG, Jurgen Klinsmann claimed it was still an open tie despite the German club winning 1-0 at home.
Jurgen Klinsmann, a 59-year-old former German international footballer, played for and managed Dortmund’s German rivals, Bayern Munich, and Germany, and won the European Championship and FIFA World Cup as a player while finishing 3rd in the World Cup as a coach.
Concerning Jadon Sancho and the recent improvements in his performances compared to his time at Manchester United, he said:
“He’s struggled a bit coming back there (Dortmund) from Man United and it takes time. But then, step by step he felt at home again with his teammates and he knows everybody and obviously is trying to find his form… His pace is back, he’s creative again and then he’s a difference maker (for Dortmund)… There could be thousands of reasons for that (Sancho’s poor performance for Manchester United). Maybe the locker room is a completely different one… maybe he didn’t feel so much at home in that moment… maybe the chemistry of the team, his best friends within the team… the spirit that is there. There’s so many little pieces…”

Jadon Sancho’s Performance Against PSG
Jadon Sancho had his best performance of the season in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semifinal tie against PSG. According to WhoScored, he had a rating of 8.74.
Throughout the match, he proved torn in the French club’s side, getting 99 touches of the ball, and completing 51 of 58 passes attempted including one to Julian Brandt close to the end of the game that could’ve led to a goal if not for a fantastic sliding tackle from PSG defender and captain, Marquinhos. It was one of the three chances he created in the game, alongside 12 successful take-ons and seven ball recoveries.
Given his rejuvenated form since he returned to the German side on loan, Craig Burley, a former midfielder who won the 1996–97 FA Cup with Chelsea, was in support of Klinsmann’s claims that Sancho’s poor form in Manchester United had to do with the environment he found himself in.
“…But I think it just has to be the environment (at Manchester United)… and I’m not saying it’s right because when you got a club to pay your wages, you should really be going out there and rolling your sleeves up… but it seems to me he is very happy at this club (Dortmund). He feels he’s treated right…”
Will Sancho Remain In Dortmund Past This Season?
Sancho’s loan move back to Germany in January from Manchester United had a lot of toxicity attached to it. It’s left to be seen if Erik Ten Hag, the Manchester United manager, thinks the change in form is enough to get him back into the team with the issues getting sorted out, or if he will be sold or loaned out again in the summer.
Jadon Sancho will return to Manchester United at the end of his loan in Germany to complete his 5-year contract which elapses in 2026. With him feeling at home in Germany, it also remains to be seen if he would want to remain in Germany beyond the loan period.
