Klay Thompson Takes a Shot At Stephen Curry

Klay Thompson's recent praise can be looked at as a slight toward Stephen Curry.

Dallas Mavericks Shooting Guard Klay Thompson appeared to take a jab at Golden State Warriors Point Guard Stephen Curry. Thompson, 34, and Curry, 36, were teammates and former “Splash Brothers” in the San Francisco Bay Area from 2011-2024. Thompson’s 13-year tenure and “Splash Brother” title in the Bay Area ended after he signed a three-year, $50 million contract with the Mavericks in the offseason.

Thompson’s signing with the Mavericks was perplexing for some, if not most, people. However, Thompson reportedly wanted a change of scenery, which Dallas, Texas, has appeared to provide so far. The 34-year-old’s hot start in Dallas has been an eye-opener compared to his past few seasons in the Bay Area, but we’ll see if the consistency continues throughout the regular season. Thompson’s apparent jab at Curry sparked mixed reactions on social media.

Klay Thompson’s Apparent Jab

Klay Thompson’s apparent jab at Stephen Curry attracted attention from people in general. Thompson has only played five games so far with Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks, but he was already accused of taking a jab at his former Golden State Warriors teammate and “Splash Brother.”

Thompson recently posted a photo of him and Doncic on Facebook with the caption, “My new Splash Brother.” It’s unclear if the former was joking, but the post took the basketball world by storm, as some people questioned his intentions. That being said, Thompson was accustomed to being the No. 2 player in the Warriors’ dynasty behind Curry. But now Thompson is in Dallas, where he appears to be the No. 3 player on the Mavericks’ roster behind Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

Thompson Achieves Success

Klay Thompson achieved success with the Golden State Warriors with four NBA championships, five NBA All-Star nods, and two All-NBA Third Team honors. Thompson has been achieving success with the Dallas Mavericks so far after devastating ACL and Achilles injuries in the final years of his lengthy Warriors tenure.

Thompson’s success in Dallas likely won’t be a repeat of the extensive resume entry he had in the Bay Area. However, Thompson can help the Mavericks win an NBA championship. The Mavericks lacked shooting last season, but Thompson’s shooting can fill in that void, as his ability to knock down open shots is unmatched in the NBA.

Thompson May Be Wrong

Klay Thompson may be wrong for his recent post on Facebook. Thompson might’ve wanted to appreciate and show love to his new teammate, Luka Doncic, but Thompson’s photo was posted arguably at the wrong time. As of Saturday, Doncic has been shooting a career-worst 38.7% from the field. Doncic’s start in the young 2024-25 NBA season has been extremely inefficient. But it’s important to note the 25-year-old’s likely not feeling 100% after suffering a left calf contusion in the offseason and a right leg injury that wasn’t serious but was recently reported as “something to monitor.”
