Klay Thompson has yet to play in a game, but he has already been bonding with his new Dallas Mavericks teammates. That being said, NBA fans — particularly Golden State Warriors fans — will have to get used to Thompson’s new team, uniform, and number, along with the Splash Brothers not taking the court together.
Thompson, 34, signed with the Mavericks in the early stages of free agency. Thompson’s signing ended a 13-year tenure with the Warriors in the Bay Area, but he has been appearing to move on just fine by switching to No. 31 to honor Reggie Miller while appreciating a change of scenery in Dallas. Read on for more.
Klay Thompson’s Moment with Quentin Grimes
Sporting News recently reported that Klay Thompson has been in Los Angeles for offseason training. Thompson is possibly spending time with family and friends as well. Thompson’s a Los Angeles native and the son of Mychal Thompson, a former Los Angeles Lakers player from 1987 to 1991.
Thompson has been soaking in the warm California sun. He even jumped off a boat and into the water, according to Quentin Grimes’ Instagram story. He appeared to have a fun bonding experience with Grimes, 24. Grimes, also a new member of the Mavericks, averaged 7.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.3 assists during the 2023-24 NBA season with the New York Knicks and Detroit Pistons.
Klay Thompson’s Introductory Press Conference
Klay Thompson’s introductory press conference with the Dallas Mavericks puts him in a positive light in Dallas after a high-profile 13-year tenure in Oakland and San Francisco. Thompson said, “Whether you play basketball or work in the corporate world or whatever industry, sometimes change can spur greatness, and a new change of scenery can do wonders.”
Thompson, a four-time NBA champion and five-time NBA All-Star, said arguably wise words for anyone in any field considering a change of scenery. Thompson’s words also appear to show that he’s making the best of his new situation while cherishing his time with his former team.
Klay Thompson’s Emotional Message to Stephen Curry
Klay Thompson’s exit from the Golden State Warriors disappointed fans and former teammate Stephen Curry, who was one-half of the Splash Brothers. However, Thompson recently wrote an emotional message to Curry.
Thompson’s father, Mychal, recently shared on the Raising Fame podcast, “He loves playing with Steph. He wants to retire as a Warrior, not anywhere else. He hopes to go into the Hall of Fame with Steph. Even though Klay is moving on, I told him he and Steph still have years of basketball ahead. Their bond is that strong.”
Thompson might not retire as a Golden State Warrior, but there’s a high hope for Thompson’s reunion with Curry in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. The duo changed the game as the Splash Brothers, and they’d want to keep that legacy alive for the years to come.
