Klay Thompson is reportedly still working on finding his best form with the Dallas Mavericks but recently praised his new Head Coach, Jason Kidd, in a new interview with Bolavip. Thompson was arguably the top offseason acquisition this summer for Kidd, 51, and company, but only time will tell.
Some, if not most, people think Thompson will be a key contributor for the Mavericks moving forward. However, Thompson is the only person who can decide for himself. Read on for Thompson’s recent thoughts about playing for Kidd and company.
Klay Thompson Praises Jason Kidd
Klay Thompson had only positive things to say about Jason Kidd. Thompson recently shared his thoughts about being coached by Kidd, a current head coach and a former point guard who won the 2011 NBA Finals with the Dallas Mavericks. Kidd is widely regarded as one of the greatest point guards ever.
Thompson told the media, “I have really enjoyed playing for Mr. Kidd. First off, I was just a huge admirer of his game growing up, especially his mixtapes, some of the best ever. The pass he threw, you still don’t see to this day. I mean, Luka (Doncic) does a good impression of it. He just seems like such a great leader.”
Thompson’s statement to the media was short and sweet but also relatable, as many basketball fans respected Kidd even if they weren’t fans of the Mavericks, Phoenix Suns, New Jersey Nets (now Brooklyn Nets), or the New York Knicks.
Thompson Expresses Optimism
Aside from praise, Klay Thompson expressed optimism about the long-term relationship with Jason Kidd. Kidd has reportedly been helping Thompson adapt to the Dallas Mavericks’ system, especially at the American Airlines Center and the Mavericks Training Center in Dallas, Texas.
Thompson shared his optimism with the media, “He’s able to convey his message very well when he speaks so I have really enjoyed playing for Mr. Kidd like I said… I’m excited to play for him for the next few seasons obviously.”
Thompson didn’t post eye-popping numbers in the preseason, but things can change in the regular season. Thompson’s scoreless outing against the Los Angeles Clippers at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, on October 14, shouldn’t define his stint in Dallas unless scoreless outings are frequent.
In Other News
In other news, the Dallas Mavericks waived Jamir Chaplin and Jarod Lucas, both shooting guards, on Saturday morning. The Mavericks also reported on Friday that Dereck Lively II was hooked on becoming a bigger force in the paint. Lively II, 20, can grow his game with his ability to hit a jump hook, according to Kidd, who also complimented Lively II’s baby hooks.
In addition, the Mavericks made the day of 120 kids and their parents on Friday afternoon. Luka Doncic, Daniel Gafford, and Naji Marshall walked onto the basketball court at Mercy Street in West Dallas. Doncic, Gafford, and Marshall played basketball with the kids and taught them valuable lessons at the Jr. NBA Clinic.
