Cody Rhodes, Sami Zayn, and Becky Lynch traveled halfway around the globe to defend their championships at the King of the Ring 2024. The six-match card occurred from the Jeddah Super Dome in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia as WWE continues along their international Premium Live Event, or PLE, tour this year.
The King of the Ring and the Queen of the Ring were last awarded in 2021 when Xavier Woods and Zelina Vega received their roses back in 2021. Four superstars looked to etch their names amongst the immortals of wrestling as the next Queen or King of the Ring.
“Watch Me” Lift This Shiny Gold Championship

Following some interference by resident bad guy Dominick Mysterio, Liv Morgan claimed the Women’s World Championship with a three-count pinfall over Becky Lynch.
Mysterio threw a chair into the ring and distracted the ref while a confused Lynch took a headfirst trip into the steel. Liv Morgan discarded the evidence, pinned Lynch’s shoulders to the mat, and claimed her second individual women’s Heavyweight Championship of her young career.
Liv Morgan won the Money In The Bank contract in 2022. She cashed in the title match the same night, defeating Ronda Rousey to win her first singles world championship.
Queen Of The Ring, King of the Ring, Crowned In 2024

Nia Jax finished Lyra Valkyria to claim the 2024 Queen Of The Ring crown. While typically just a ceremonial victory, some superstars have leaned into the Royal aspect of the win, most notably when Booker T transformed into King Booker (w/ Queen Sharmell). Nia Jax will receive a title match at August’s SummerSlam event.
Gunther robbed Randy Orton in a fantastic fight. In what will surely become a highly scrutinized video in the internet wrestling community, the Austrian grappler rolled up Orton for a three-count. It was clear on replay to everyone but the perfectly positioned referee that Orton’s shoulders were not pinned to the mat. Given the controversial ending, it will be interesting to see how this situation plays out heading into “the hottest event of the summer.”

In the main event, Cody Rhodes survived Logan Paul to return stateside with his title reign intact for at least a few more weeks. Predictably, Logan Paul used the brass knuckles he promised not to use. Ultimately, Paul’s antics did not matter as the American Nightmare retained his WWE Championship at King of the Ring 2024.
Sami Zayn retained his Intercontinental Championship in a win over Chad Gable and Bronson Reed. Gable and Otis’ “communication issues” cost the former Olympian Gable as Otis ran over him like a cartoon character getting squashed by an ACME anvil on the outside. Zayn pinned Reed for the win back inside the ring.
Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill defeated Candice LeRae & Indi Harwell to retain the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships on the kickoff show.
WWE’s Chief Content Officer Paul “HHH” Levesque announced in a backstage interview that Drew McIntyre will fight Damien Priest in three weeks at Clash At The Castle for the World Heavyweight Championship in Glasgow, Scotland. The event in WWE’s International-heavy Premium Live Event schedule will occur on 07/15/24.
WWE’s Live Events In Saudi Arabia Expected Until 2027

World Wide Entertainment (WWE) and the Saudi General Entertainment Authority (GEA) entered into a contractual agreement in March 2018 that was reportedly very lucrative for the sports entertainment leader. A PLE was held the following month called “Greatest Royal Rumble” at the Jeddah Super Dome.
WWE has run a premium live event from that controversial market ever since the ink dried on that reported 10-year contract that runs through 2027.
