He convincingly and rather easily defeated former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker. This amazing fight happened in Abu Dhabi.

Both fighters had great skills and it was predicted that they would give each other a tough time but the UFC world was shocked. During the initial stages of the fight, he secured a submission hold that allegedly knocked Whittaker’s jaw joint out of its socket, a technique that panned out a surprise to both spectators and the judges. This move was so ruthless and destructive that the jaw of Robert Whittaker made cracking sounds that were heard by nearby people.

Amazing Performance From Khamzat Chimaev

The fight began with both men attempting to grapple and get one another into a dominant choke. At last, one had to win it and that’s where Chimaev stepped up and showed some of his usual vicious moves. Known for his continuous wrestling, borz immediately went for Whittaker’s limbs. It was clear that Chimaev was there to make the history and the pressure that he applied was relentless for the former champion to bear.

The first round was especially significant for Chimaev when the timer hit 3:24 we saw an incredible feat of grappling and skills of Chimaev, as he caught Whittaker into a choke. Chimaev thought that he had got his neck but instead, his chin was in the middle. It was not the tightest grip but was strong enough to inject some severe pain from the moment he grabbed it.

Robert Whittaker Taps Out

Whittaker on his part, proved to be a tough nut to crack but had no option but to surrender. At last, Robert Whittaker couldn’t take it anymore and tapped out. Many people heard the crack but weren’t sure if the jaw was dislocated but later the authorities confirmed that Chimaev did dislocate Whittaker’s jaw.

The current Champion of the Middleweight Division is Dricus Du Plessis and he has proved himself by defeating the greatest in his division. But on the other side, it took Chimaev’s performance at UFC 308 for people to start questioning what role he plays in the middleweight division. Whittaker is also a former champion of the division and by defeating him, many consider him ready for a title fight. Non-stop striking and grappling combination still pose major problems for his opponents while finishing instinct makes him a dangerous force in his weight class.

Final Thoughts

It will be very difficult for “The Reaper” to recover from the injury and defeat. When entering the Octagon of UFC 308, Whittaker was rated as one of the best middleweight fighters with occasional defeats by other champions. However, the great Chimaev could not slow down, and his raw power overwhelmed the Australian. Now fans are waiting for the next match of Khamzat Chimaev against Dricus Du Plessis because Plessis is also a vicious fighter as he dominated Israel Adesanya very badly in previous events.
