Robert Whittaker has fought 34 fights in their whole professional career and lost 7 of the fights but won 27 of them. He has only lost three times since he was promoted to the middleweight division of the UFC. One of those losses was to ‘Izzy,’ and the other most recent loss was to the new Middleweight Champion, Dricus du Plessis, at UFC 290. Although Whittaker has not been able to regain the UFC middleweight title since 2019, he has defeated powerful opponents such as Darren Till, Jared Cannonier, Paulo Costa, Marvin Vettori, and Ikram Aliskerov.
Robert Whittaker on Middleweight Divison
In a recent episode of Submission Radio, Whittaker spoke about the current state of the UFC Middleweight division. Rober thinks that, according to their skill set, he is much more powerful than Khamzat Chimaev. Speaking of his next fight, “The Reaper” pointed out that he has two camps preparing for the upcoming fight against the Borz, which, of course, becomes a significant advantage.
“I’ve essentially had two camps for this guy, right? I think skill-set-wise, I’m probably at the best I’ve been. I’ve been especially most prepared for Khamzat, theoretically speaking as I could be, right?” The former UFC middleweight champion also says he is feeling good inside and outside. He likes to fight in the Middle East, and UFC 308 will occur there.
Strength of ‘The Borz’
Whittaker was not shy about expressing himself when asked about his plan for the fight against Khamzat Chimaev. He is aware that his opponent is very strong in wrestling, particularly in the first few rounds. However, he is sure he knows how to suffice Chimaev in wrestling and take over as the fight continues.
Khamzat Chimaev: He has studied the style and moves of ‘The Borz,’ so it would be challenging for Borz to bring down such a difficult opponent. Robert knows the fast-paced start that Khamzat Chimaev takes, as he has done before against many opponents.
“Yeah, definitely that high-paced start and his wrestling prowess. It’s quite simple. You know, you have to worry about how hard he will push the wrestling envelope in the first few rounds. And then, like, what I’m going to do after that, after I stop the takedowns after I get back up or whatever, and just taking the fight to him.”
Final Thoughts
Both fighters are dangerous in every case. If we look at striking, grappling, wrestling, or choking out the opponent, both of them are on another level. ‘The Borz’ would be returning after recovering from serious health issues, and this would be his first fight. The fight would take place in the Middle East and the cage of ‘Etihad Arena’, Abu Dhabi. What are your thoughts on the Return of ‘The Borz’, Khamzat Chimaev? Let us know in the comment section.
