Khabib Nurmagomedov was one of the greatest fighters of all time. He has a rough history with Tony Ferguson, as they trash-talked a lot. While Khabib was still in the game, he continued his rivalry with Tony Ferguson, and soon, their fight was fixed for UFC 209. But these two legends weren’t able to fight against each other in the Octagon because their fight was canceled. Later on, Khabib Nurmagomedov retired, and we weren’t able to watch the legendary fight between the two greatest fighters of all time. But now it’s obvious that we are going to see Tony go through the same path.
Tony Ferguson Retirement
Recently, Tony Ferguson fought with Michael Chiesa, and everyone was shocked to see the results. Tony lost this fight, and not only this fight, but it’s also his eighth fight that he’s constantly losing. This sudden change in Ferguson’s performance has led to one result, and we all know that. Ferguson is now looking forward to retiring. He took out one glove of his hand and left that in the Octagon and took the other one with himself. So, for now, he is partially retired. The retirement of this great champion seemed obvious because of his age factor.
The legend is now 40 years old, and that’s the age when the body of every human being starts to become weak. And the evidence of that is the eight consecutive losses of the legendary Ferguson. He has proved himself to millions and millions of people, and it’s time for him to jump into the other fields of combat sports. Other Champions have also reacted to Tony’s recent fights and expressed their thoughts about them, including Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Khabib Nurmagomedov Appreciates Tony
Khabib Nurmagomedov shocked everyone by using very generous and kind words towards Tony. Besides the old rivalry, Dagestani showed respect towards Tony and his current performance. Like everyone else, Khabib suggested Tony move on in life and do other necessary things. Khabib suggested to Tony that he has a lot of things to achieve more in life, and it’s just the beginning of a new era for Ferguson.
But besides all that, the former Lightweight Champion clearly said that he knew that it was going to happen because it’s obvious that a person cannot be the same all the time. “It’s not a surprise for me because he’s 40 years old.” This shows that every rise has a fall, and so did the rise of Ferguson, and Nurmagomedov knew that already. Wishing Ferguson all the best and appreciating his efforts, Khabib Nurmagomedov said, “I just want to wish him all the best. He’s truly one of the best who ever was doing it in the UFC. I just want to wish him all the best.”
Beginning of New Future
Khabib Nurmagomedov explained the past by saying “Of course, in my prime and his prime, it’s supposed to be a very interesting fight, But what can I do? He had a couple of injuries, I had a couple of injuries. It is what it is.” There was a time when everyone wanted to see a fight between Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson. But this legendary fight never happened and at that time, everyone used to compare their skills and their mistakes.
Things changed, as time passed and Khabib retired because of his father Abdul Manap Nurmagomedov passing away and the fight never happened. Tony Ferguson kept fighting and now it seems that it’s coming to an end as Tony is on an 8th fight loss streak. Khabib Nurmagomedov suggested to Tony to retire and showed respect to the other Champion who he was supposed to fight in the past.
