Kevin Owens’ WWE Contract: Countdown Begins

Kevin Owens

The 40-year-old former Universal Champion, Kevin Owens, shares an update for his fans and followers about the WWE contract. He mentioned in an interview with Metro UK on May 4 that he has nine months left on his existing contract. The only difference since then is that, as Owens has said in an interview with Sports Illustrated’s ‘The Takedown’, the time that was left in his contract was much longer.

Fans saw him signing a three-year WWE deal back at the end of 2021; the speculated salary was between two and three million dollars annually. This proved to be very rich which might have been more financially rewarding than he would have received with competition promotion AEW. Popular wrestling reporter Dave Meltzer also pointed out that the deal was big and perhaps was in the range that AEW could only afford.

Kevin Owens’s Current WWE Involvement

For now, Kevin Owens has a storyline with Cody Rhodes in the WWE SmackDown. This rivalry will be intense, culminating when he accepts Rhodes’s challenge for a WWE Championship match next Saturday at Bash in Berlin.

The angles of Kevin Owens that include high profile stories titles and championship matches directly show that he is still relevant in WWE. Nevertheless, owing to the time limit of his current contract, he continues to play a great role in the company’s programming.

Future Considerations

As the days go by and Kevin Owens is closer to the expiration of his contract with WWE there are still more rumors. The fans and the wrestling analyst are expecting to know whether he will return to signing to WWE again or he may start searching for other promotions to work for or quitting the wrestling business altogether.

It could be expected that with his experience in the field and the previous year’s results, he will interest some parties. His plans are not certain and fans are really curious about his career and whether he may join another promotion like AEW or TNA or he may choose to end his wrestling career. It will be cleared soon when the expiration of the contract comes closer.

In Conclusion

Now it’s Kevin Owens’s WWE contract expiration and as is always expected when a wrestler’s contract approaches expiry, the wrestling world monitors the situation. WWE still needs KO given that he only has less than a year left on his contract and his current storyline with Cody Rhodes is just starting. That is why the large contract concluded with him in late 2021 speaks of his contribution to the company. It is yet to be seen if he will return and continue with his current team through a signed contract search for a new team entirely or opt for a new career path.

Whatever he will do in the wake of the WWE Championship fight scheduled for Bash in Berlin, lovers of wrestling and pro wrestling analysts alike will be keenly waiting to see which way Kevin will turn, a decision that could help shape the course of the wrestling business.
