Kevin Lee Confused by UFC’s Unexpected Contender Series Rejection

Kevin Lee wants to return to the ring.

Kevin Lee wants to restart his UFC journey in many ways. Even though he is going to take one of the hardest routes to a successful UFC career. It also means that he will be offered to compete in Dana White’s Contender Series on multiple occasions.

Kevin Lee offered a great deal to UFC before but they refused his offer. Now, the man who has faced for the UFC interim lightweight title has had two bouts. First, he is expected to make his MMA comeback this Saturday, when he takes on Thiago Oliveira in the main event of Lights Out Championship 17, in his home state of Michigan. This will be Lee’s first bout after a 55-second defeat by Rinat Fakhretdinov at UFC Vegas 76 in July. He discussed the different steps he took before going on this route with Anik & Florian.

Performance Of Kevin Lee

Kevin Lee might feel like UFC has used him for their benefit and now just thrown him away after they don’t need him. The best example is when UFC did not have anyone to put against Tony Ferguson, Lee was there and they had a great match. Kevin Lee said this about what UFC said to him and his performance in the UFC. “They didn’t have much conversation with me. They pretty much just said, ‘No. All right. Do you want to come back? Come back. But go somewhere else,’ basically.”

Lee even offered to go to the Contender Series. But unfortunately Dana White rejected that. “It’s not what I’m willing to do for the company. I’m somebody who fought Tony Ferguson when nobody else wanted to fight Tony when they needed somebody to fight him for the world title.”

Interview With Lee

Kevin Lee had an interview with MMA Fighting where he clearly explained that the reason behind his decline in career is not his views. There is something else that he does not understand. He gave the example of Dana White bragging about the views that other fighters brought in but he clarified in the interview that his brother alone brought 12 million views on a video that he made on Kevin Lee and, despite his channel being a food vlogging channel.

Kevin Lee said this in the interview. “I’ve heard Dana kind of brag about Belal Muhammad when he wrapped the belt around him and he bragged that he got more views than any other champion — and it was like 20 million views or something.

But my brother former fighter-turned-famous food vlogger Keith Lee did a small video for me getting ready for my last fight in the APEX and, keep this in mind, this is a prelim APEX card fight, and my brother did a post and he got 12 million views compared to a champion that did 20 million views and Dana’s bragging about it, so I don’t think that’s the issue.”

Final Thoughts

If we analyze the history of Kevin Lee it is obvious that UFC must invest more in him and allow him to compete in more fights. On the other side, Dana White has some strict rules and weird ways that he has established in the UFC. But after all, we will see Kevin Lee in the UFC as a successful fighter because of his knowledge and experience in the sport and most importantly his history of fighting famous champions.
