Phoenix Suns star forward Kevin Durant recently selected two Dallas Mavericks players in his “perfect” starting five of current NBA players. Durant was an integral part of the Golden State Warriors dynasty in the late 2010s, so it’s only fitting that a veteran NBA player like him would respond to a question about his starting five.
Durant recently appeared on the “Boardroom” show. He built his starting five and included two Dallas Mavericks players for his ideal starting lineup, but they might not be who you think. Read on for more details.
Kevin Durant’s ‘Perfect’ Starting Five
Kevin Durant recently gave his “perfect” starting five of current players in a recent appearance on the “Boardroom” show via MFFL Nation.
Durant said, “I’d probably go with Luka [Doncic] at the point … Luka, me, LeBron [James], [Joel] Embiid at my five because Embiid can shoot the three better than [Nikola Jokic] … Then you gotta go with someone like Klay [Thompson]. He’s 6’7″, shooting that thing like that.”
Durant didn’t select Dallas Mavericks veteran guard Kyrie Irving, which was a bit surprising, as he reportedly left the Golden State Warriors to team up with him on the Brooklyn Nets. They didn’t achieve a lot of success on the court, but they remained good friends off the court.
Kevin Durant’s Two Dallas Mavericks
Kevin Durant’s “perfect” starting five of current players included two Dallas Mavericks: Luka Doncic and Klay Thompson.
Doncic is perfectly understandable, as he’s one of the best players in the NBA at the moment. But Thompson was a bit of a surprise because he’s not the same player that he used to be and he has lost some of his athleticism and defensive ability over the years. Thompson caught a lot of flack for his overall performance last season, but part of the reason why he signed with the Mavericks was to prove to the public that he can still help a team win.
Kevin Durant’s Remaining “Perfect” Starting Five
The rest of Kevin Durant’s remaining “perfect” starting five was clear and simple. Durant’s one of the best players ever, Luka Doncic and Joel Embiid are two potential NBA MVP candidates, and LeBron James has an arguably solid case for Hall of Fame consideration in the future.
Durant and James are up in age, but even though they’re closer to retirement, they’re still playing at a high level for players in their mid-to late-thirties.
Durant’s starting five was accurate for the most part. His current teammate, Devin Booker, on the Phoenix Suns, might’ve been a better pick than Klay Thompson, but we’ll see how Thompson’s upcoming tenure in Dallas pans out next season.
