Jonathan Rea left Kawasaki after the calendar year 2023 upon which he experienced a difficult time in which he was able to score only one WSBK race victory. Nevertheless, he has not been able to score a win with Yamaha in 2015 and they have been able to record two wins with Alex Lowes. After Rea dominated between 2015 and 2020, the WorldSBK regulation altered and brought back the 500rpm to Kawasaki to balance things up.
Performance Enhancements and Challenges
The novel rules concerning the riders’ weight for performance balancing have enabled Kawasaki to unveil upgraded engine parts in model 2024. This has led to some improvement in the ZX-10RR, and it is still not in a class of its own.
When speaking about the changes Kawasaki Racing Team manager, Guim Roda, mentioned that ZX-10RR has been progressing, but still has flaws. He pointed out that while the new engine components have helped, they only add a small amount of extra horsepower. Changes have been made on the electronics, suspension side, and bike setup but there is still more to be done.
Alex Lowes has achieved two wins, at Phillip Island, while Axel Bassani’s best result is a sixth-place finish. Roda speculated on the potential impact of Rea’s presence on the team, Roda stated that
Johnny was accustomed to riding the bike in a certain way, and now we’re extracting performance differently, Roda said.
He pointed out that while Lowes and Rea were close in speed last year, Lowes has shown improved consistency this year. Guim Roda also suggested that his absence might have influenced their performance, Roda mentioned that
It’s always a more comfortable way to work when the expectation is less and for sure, with a six-time World Champion in the team, the expectation is super high and this puts a lot of pressure to work on them, Roda said.
The reduced pressure in his absence has allowed the team to focus on building a solid base with Lowes and Bassani, leading to more positive results.

Thus, the 2025 season will bring Changes as Kawasaki leaves Bimota and moves to the Bimota brand. For the new Bimota machine, they will use the frame of the Italian brand together with the power unit of the Kawasaki ZX-10RR. The main details of the next work remain undisclosed whereas Guim Roda has disclosed that it would no longer be adorned in their green color. The change, therefore can be attributed as a strategic one as it seeks to change the obstacles that the team has been facing in the league while transitioning to the championship.
In Conclusion
As the Kawasaki Racing Team continues to race challenging seasons, the end of Jonathan Rea certainly has greatly changed the team. They have advanced with the ZX-10RR and achieved some new achievements, especially with Alex Lowes but still, there is a lot that the team and the bike are still facing to fight with their stronger rivals. Bimota is going to be a new experience in 2025 and will bring new opportunities as well as new problems. With the fresh and upgraded machine and the new attitude, they are establishing themselves in finding the future of WorldSBK, which will challenge the team in levels of creativity and resourcefulness unlike ever before.
