Kansas City Royals Continue Great Season

Witt

With a 6-1 win earlier today at home the Kansas City Royals continued what has been a great 2024 season. The team has been stellar in many facets this season, but they have been especially good within the friendly confines of Kauffman Stadium. They have a home record of 33-18 this season which gives them the second-most wins at home this year. Only the Philadelphia Phillies, the team with the best record in Major League Baseball, have more wins at home this season than the Kansas City Royals.

Kansas City was powered today by a great performance from Starting Pitcher Brady Singer who tossed seven scoreless innings while punching out seven. Shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. seems revitalized following the all-star break as he has three hits in each of his post-all-star contests. He went 3-of-4 this afternoon. Will the Kansas City Royals be able to keep up this high level of play as the home stretch of the regular season is right around the corner?

Kansas City Royals Season Summary

Kansas City(54-45) is in third place in the American League Central and currently sits just 0.5 GB of the third and final American League Wild Card spot. The team has been paced by a strong offense this season. They are 11th in batting average, 18th in home runs, and 11th in runs scored. Their offense is led by the aforementioned Witt Jr. and perennial all-star Catcher Salvador Perez. Witt Jr. is second in the league in batting average, sixth in doubles, ninth in RBI, and top 20 in OBP. Perez is top 3o in the league in batting average, home runs, and RBI. Witt Jr. was named to his first MLB All-Star Game this season while Perez was named to his ninth.

The pitching staff of the Kansas City Royals has also been stellar this year. They are ninth in ERA, 17th in WHIP, and 18th in opposing batting average. Starting Pitcher Seth Lugo is having a Cy Young-caliber season up until this point. He is second in the league in wins and third in ERA. Cole Ragans is fourth in the league in strikeouts and Relief Pitcher John Schreiber is ninth in the league with 19 holds.

Kansas City Upcoming Schedule

The Kansas City Royals finish up their three-game set with the Chicago White Sox tomorrow afternoon before hosting the Arizona Diamondbacks for a three-game series that gets underway on Monday. Kansas City will be competing during the second half of the regular season to qualify for the MLB Playoffs for the first time since they won the World Series in 2015. In such a loaded American League, Kansas City will have their work cut out for them.

The Royals entered this season with an O/U win total of 73.5 according to Vegas Insider. They have exceeded expectations so far this season, but have no interest in resting on their laurels. The team is currently on an 88-win pace which would give the team a great chance to qualify for the MLB Playoffs. Kansas City finds themselves in third place in the American League Central due to the fact they have struggled with the two teams above them in the standings, the Cleveland Guardians and Minnesota Twins. Kansas City is a combined 6-7 against these ballclubs this season.

The Kansas City Royals have hope this late into the regular season. That is not very common for them over the last decade in the “City of Fountains.”
