Kansas City Chiefs Sign Super Bowl Winning Wide Receiver To 1-Year Deal

Kansas City Chiefs Mecole Hardman

The Kansas City Chiefs are on a quest for a third straight Super Bowl. While they were able to overcome poor wide receiver play last year, the front office knows this isn’t a recipe for sustained success. They brought in Hollywood Brown and drafted Xavier Worthy in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. The Chiefs added another wide receiver on Thursday morning, bringing Mecole Hardman back to the team.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero was the first to report the Kansas City Chiefs were bringing back Mecole Hardman. His 2023 season was truly bizarre. He left the team and signed a one-year deal with the Jets in the offseason. However, his role on the team was nonexistent, and New York ended up trading him back to Kansas City before the trade deadline. His season culminated in him catching the game-winning touchdown in the Super Bowl.

It will be interesting to see how the Kansas City Chiefs use Mecole Hardman in 2024. While he was the hero in the biggest moment, he only caught 14 passes for 118 yards once he returned to the team. With Brown, Worthy, and Travis Kelce on the roster, he likely won’t get more opportunities. More than likely, this is a mutually beneficial signing. Kansas City gets a trusted player, and Hardman gets a shot at a fourth Super Bowl ring.

Can The Chiefs Three-Peat?

Only three teams in NFL history have appeared in three straight Super Bowls. No team in NFL history has ever won three straight Super Bowls. The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to make history in 2024. The fact no team has ever done it shows how difficult winning is in the NFL. The one-and-done playoff format adds variance that other sports do not have. Injuries, schedules, and a variety of other factors make sustaining success difficult.

If there is any team that is going to win three straight, it is the Kansas City Chiefs. They proved last year that they do not need a dominant roster in order to make a Super Bowl run. While the regular season was rather pedestrian, they know how to win in the playoffs. Having Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid definitely doesn’t hurt either. This team will have a target on their back and the AFC is tough. Can they make NFL history in 2024?
