Ka’imi Fairbairn gives Houston Texans Win in Final Seconds

Houston Texans

In one of the more exciting games of Week 5, the Texans beat the Bills after a field goal in the closing seconds. At first, this looked like a blowout for Buffalo. After a huge injury to Nico Collins, though, the Bills made a comeback. This game might have gone into overtime, but Houston got the ball after some decisions by the Bills that will be scrutinized throughout the week.

Texans pull out to an Early Lead

The Texans owned the first half of this game. It started with the defense, which was able to get a big sack on Josh Allen on their first drive. This led them to a field goal instead of a touchdown, and it was also the only time the Bills would score for a while.

Once the Texans got the ball back, the offense was firing on all cylinders. Cam Akers, who was filling in for injured Joe Mixon, recorded the first touchdown of the game. Blocking on the play was well executed, as Akers just had to make one guy miss and essentially walked into the endzone from there.

The second touchdown came on a one-play drive. C.J. Stroud dropped back like he was throwing a screen to his left, but instead hit Nico Collins for a 67-yard touchdown. By the time Stroud had dropped back, Collins outran the entire Bills secondary. Sadly, that was the only ball Nico Collins caught in the game. Afterward, he left the field with a hamstring injury and has not returned since. From that point, the momentum shifted directly toward the Bills.

Bills make a Strong Comeback

Josh Allen started getting in tune with the offense in the second half. He drove the offense down the field with their first drive of the second half, ending with a run by James Cook to nab their first touchdown. Later on, Allen hit Keon Coleman for a 49-yard touchdown.

The Bills’ defense really stepped up in the second half as well against the Texan’s offense. They were able to shut down Dare Ogunbowale trying to move the chains on 4th and 1. They also strip-sacked C.J. Stroud in the 4th quarter to set up for a game-tying field goal.

Buffalo goes 0-3, Gives the Ball Back to Houston

After the game was tied, Houston got the ball with around four minutes left. They drove down the field until they reached Fairbairn’s field goal range, but unfortunately, Stroud got called for an intentional grounding, bringing the ball out of range. The Texans then decided to punt and play for overtime.

The Bills got the ball with under a minute left and backed up onto their own endzone. It looked like they were going to run the ball and let time run out, but instead, Allen threw three times and got three incompletions.

This ended up being detrimental to the Bills since they gave the Texans a short field on the following punt. Stroud then made a short completion, called time out, and Ka’imi Fairbairn kicked a 59-yard field goal to win the game. Many fans will likely discuss why the Bills didn’t just knee the football for a while.
