Juventus opened the 2024–25 Serie A season with an impressive performance and a 3-0 win over newly promoted Como. It was intriguingly electrifying action at Allianz Stadium, with the team doing its best to signal to the world that the new campaign is ready to go. What was witnessed was a display of complete dominance by Juventus; it was well-sealed with three great strikes from Mbangula, Weah, and Cambiaso.
Bright Start
Thiago Motta made some juicy decisions in his first competitive match at the helm of Juventus. Perhaps the first surprise of the evening was that of winger Mbangula, who took his place on the left flank. Gatti and Bremer were at center-back, with Gatti being handed captaincy duties. In the first minutes, the team was fierce despite the scorching heat.
Juventus did not take long to impose their stamp on the match. It was 22 minutes when Mbangula opened the scoring with a nice drive to the far corner. The Allianz Stadium reached the screaming point as Mbangula celebrated his debut goal by bowing to the crowd. This early lead dictated the pace for the rest of the game.
They kept up the pressure and, after 33 minutes, came very close to getting Vlahovic a goal, but Como’s defense did enough to hack the ball away. A bit later, there was the Yildiz chance; his effort, however, was blocked by Como goalkeeper Reina. Just before halftime, Vlahovic rapped the left post with a left foot, but Juve didn’t have to wait long for their second goal.
Juventus Dominate Second Half
The second half picked up where the first left off, with wave after wave of Juve attacks. Weah doubled the lead with a thunderous strike volleyed down off the crossbar, which bounced over the line before spinning back out. In the sweltering heat, a game that had been trending toward a frenzy of action from the very start began to drag its feet a bit. Juventus kept coming at Como’s defense.
The second half was lit up by a succession of incidents involving Dusan Vlahovic. First, Vlahovic thought that he had scored with an excellent header but the goal was ruled out for offside after consulting the VAR. Not giving up, he remained in attack and hit the post once more in the 53rd minute.
Endurance and Substitutions
The game began to wear on and, with that, the heat began to take a toll, so the pace was very slow. Juventus still controlled things but looked for their chances. The new signings, Savona and Douglas Luiz made their debuts. Luiz was given a nice applause as he came on for Locatelli.
This strong start gives Juventus fans much to be excited about. With new talent at the helm, accompanied by seasoned players. As the season comes along, Juventus will try to build off of this solid foundation to keep going in their pursuit of success. The Como encounter was an opening game that showed Juventus at its powerful best. Standout performances were registered with the largest record crowd, marking the beginning of what looks to be a very exciting Serie A season. How this team is going to shape up and perform in games to come will be a keen watch for fans and analysts alike.
