The Los Angeles Chargers and the Houston Texans started the AFC Wild Card Playoffs this afternoon in Houston, Texas. The Chargers started off strong but ended up falling apart as the game went on and the Texans defense got the best of them. The Chargers lost to the Texans 32-12. It was not a pretty sight for Los Angeles Chargers Quarterback Justin Herbert. What happened to Justin Herbert and the Chargers in this Wild Card game?
Los Angeles Chargers Justin Herbert Struggles
Quarterback Justin Herbert was great during the regular season. He only had three interceptions in 17 games. Today during the playoffs, Herbert had four interceptions. Justin Herbert had a 65.9% completion rate, 3,870 passing yards, and 23 touchdowns to 3 interceptions in the regular season. Today, Herbert was 14-of-32 with 242 passing yards, 1 touchdown, and 4 interceptions.
At first, the Houston Texans could not get anything going on offense gaining 54 yards of offense on the first five possessions. They ended with three punts, a fumble, and an interception. However, it was the Texans defense that came out in the second half and started getting the best of the Chargers offense and Justin Herbert.
Justin Herbert was sacked four times and tossed four interceptions. One of the interceptions was taken to the house by the Texans defense while the other was taken into the red zone. Houston’s defense was suffocating to Justin Herbert and overwhelmed him. Herbert played in his second playoff game of his career. Despite Herbert having a miserable game, the Chargers did not play well as a team. The Chargers not only could not get anything done on offense, but they also had miscues and sluggish defense.
The Houston Texans capitalized on the Chargers mistakes and Quarterback C.J. Stroud and the Texans offense got it done even though the Texans were home underdogs coming into this matchup. Now the Texans are moving on in the playoffs. We will see if the Texans can continue playing dominant defense against their next opponent.
