If ever there was a player to bring Zinedine Zidane’s magic back to the game, no one expected to be an Englishman from Birmingham. Jude Bellingham is enjoying a great maiden campaign with Real Madrid, where he is creating and scoring important goals.
Whether it’s at the Santiago Bernabeu or Nou Camp, the Los Blancos can count on their newfound hero. While his talent was never in doubt, there were always questions as to how much of it he could live up to. As things stand, he’s comfortably among the top 5 best players in the world.
With his club preparing for the Champions League final at Wembley against Borrusia Dortmund, could it be him holding the Ballon d’Or later this year?

After leaving Borrusia Dortmund last summer, it was evident the Los Blancos had snatched a gem. However, only a few, if any, expected Jude Bellingham to hit the ground running as he did.
While the club was adjusting to life without Karim Benzema, an aging Luka Modric, and injuries to Vinicius Junior, Jude stepped up. Wearing the iconic number five jersey previously worn by Zidane, Bellingham has been tearing up defenses.
Interestingly, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has been using Bellingham in a hybrid 10 role. He occupies the space behind Brazilian forwards Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior. With the three of them constantly shifting positions in the final third, Bellingham has the freedom to wreak havoc among opposition defenses.
And so, he’s been doing. From decisive match-winning passes, to last-minute goals, and mesmerizing skills, everything in his locker has been plain to see. While his goal contributions have reduced over the last few months, his impact is certainly soaring. A good example is his sublime first touch against Manchester City to free himself up in the lead-up to Rodrygo’s goal.
Overall, Jude Bellingham has 32 goal contributions, including 22 goals. Along with his four goals in the Champions League, he has 18 in La Liga. All this while playing an advanced midfield role for Real Madrid.
Team Performance

On an individual level, there would be little controversy if Jude Bellingham won the Ballon d’Or. However, team performance is also a key factor in the outcomes. In this regard, he’s not doing too badly.
Now that Real Madrid is in the Champions League final with Borussia Dortmund, adding this title to his first La Liga win would boost his cause. Of course, he’ll still face stiff competition from clubmate Vinicius Junior, countryman Harry Kane, and France Forward Kylian Mbappe.

If it was a normal season, winning the Champions League would be enough to guarantee Jude Bellingham a top-two finish alongside clubmate Vinicius Junior. However, with the Copa America and Euros on the horizon, the rankings may change significantly before the start of the next season.
To keep himself at the forefront, Jude Bellingham should take a leading role in the Champions League final and Euros. Leading his country to victory or at least further than France or Brazil in the Copa America may be enough for him.
