Jorge Masvidal Sparks Big Showdown Against Conor McGregor

Stipe Miocic Jorge Masvidal

After a long break, Jorge Masvidal is returning to the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Masvidal is preparing to return to the UFC, but to do so, he must determine who he will fight. He recently said some words against ‘The Notorious’ that would spark a rivalry between them. Conor McGregor is already trying to solve his issues with the UFC, Michael Chandler, and his contract.

Masvidal left MMA in 2023. After that, he talked about his return many times, like McGregor, but this time, he was more serious than ever. If you have been following Masvidal for some time, you would know that he is one of the first fighters of the BMF Championship and, most importantly, the winner of the first BMF title, which gives him weight over other fighters. Masvidal has a lot of fighters to choose from as there are new champions in many of the divisions, like Belal Muhammad, Merab Dvalishvili, and upcoming Umar Nurmagomedov.

Expected Opponents of Jorge Masvidal

Masvidal has a great opportunity to fight Chandler as he has waited a long time. McGregor has been teasing a comeback for more than a year now after sustaining a serious broken leg in his fight with Dustin Poirier, who is Masvidal’s training partner. In 2023, when he was leaving the company, Masvidal wanted his last fight to be against McGregor, but the Notorious withdrew because of a broken toe.

Due to the broken toe, McGregor could not even face Chandler at the now-canceled UFC 303 last June. Some rumors were mentioned that McGregor might compete before the end of 2024; however, UFC CEO Dana White quickly dismissed such ideas, commenting that McGregor might compete in 2025. Most importantly, White announced that Conor would not receive any rival before his return.

Michael Chandler as a Potential Opponent

Curiosity regarding McGregor’s return keeps increasing, as Masvidal is equally confident that he will not be the one facing him on his comeback. If McGregor decides not to compete in the UFC anymore, then Masvidal would gladly take the fight with Chandler, but the Cuban sees that as a completely different reality for him.

Chandler has not fought in nearly two years while waiting for the fight with McGregor, and Masvidal is even beginning to doubt that it will ever happen. If Chandler is willing to get back into the cage and fight, then Jorge Masvidal is more than happy to make it clear to Chandler that he will be there come fight night.

Masvidal said this about the fight against Chandler. “That wouldn’t be a bad fight to get my feet wet again with MMA. Kind of an introductory course to MMA. I wouldn’t mind that fight. But there’s a lot of fights that I would take. I was just throwing that one out there. You can’t sit in silence forever. Let’s go. Do you want to throw down with one of the most f*cking electrifying motherf*ckers that ever touched the sport? Let’s f*cking go.”

Final Thoughts

Chandler will fight Charles Oliveira in the upcoming UFC 309 Co-main Event. The main event of UFC 309 is the fight between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic. Masvidal will only get an opportunity to fight Oliveira or Chandler after UFC 309.

Conor McGregor will retire from UFC in the near future. After his contract is over, he will retire as he has multi-million dollar businesses to manage. What are your thoughts about the future of Conor McGregor and Jorge Masvidal?
