Dana White Confirms Potential Jon Jones-Tom Aspinall Fight

Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall

At the UFC 304 press conference, Dana White was asked about a potential big-time fight. It could possibly pit Jon Jones against Tom Aspinall. But it’s going to be something on a wait-and-see basis. It depends on who wins between Aspinall and Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304, along with the winner between UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic.

Jones has been avoiding Aspinall for over a year. Many fans are begging Jones to step into the Octagon with the interim champion.

Jones is set to fight Miocic, potentially at UFC 309 in Madison Square Garden. The champion has not been active since March 2023 due to an injury. During that time, Aspinall has made a name for himself in the heavyweight division.

Dana White Makes the Call

UFC 304 Press Conference

Dana White was asked about this possible fight. He said, “Absolutely.” This answer shook up some people as Jones has stated that he has no intention of fighting Aspinall.

Jon Jones won his title at UFC 285, defeating top heavyweight contender Ciryl Gane via a first-round submission. Aspinall also scored a first-round knockout against Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 295 to crown an interim champion.

Fans Upset With Jon Jones

Jones is nearing his return as there has been speculation that he will headline UFC 309. However, media and fans are still critical of this return. Why? He’s fighting Miocic even though his first defense should have been against Aspinall.

Miocic is regarded as the greatest mixed martial arts heavyweight of all time. But he is a shell of his former self and no longer a top contender in the division. His last fight was a knockout loss against Francis Ngannou over three years ago in 2021. By the time he fights Jon Jones, Miocic wouldn’t have won in over four years.

Aspinall is viewed as one of the most skilled fighters in the division today. His striking and submission skills are rare to see. Due to Jones refusing to fight Aspinall, he is forced to defend his interim championship, something that hasn’t been done in over a decade.

If Jones beats Miocic and Aspinall wins his fight against Blaydes, then the two may put on the greatest fight in heavyweight history.
