Jon Jones and Alex Pereria might sign a contract to train together. But there has been recent debate on whether light heavyweight title holder Pereira, who defeated ex-champ Glover Teixeira in his last fight, would agree to sparring sessions with Jones. It will be interesting to note that Pereira’s next fight is a title defense match against Khalil Rountree in the UFC 307 on October 5th.
After that, he’s ready to help Jones prepare for the heavyweight title fight against Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 in New York on November 16. Pereira was present this past Saturday at UFC 306 in Las Vegas and was very clear about texting Jones about possibly training together.
Jon Jones and Alex Pereira in UFC 306
The UFC has never staged a show like last night’s Las Vegas show. They invested $20 million in production for this production, and it was because Dana White was looking for a venue for Mexican Independence Day.
They had to find a suitable site rather than the normal T-Mobile Arena. The main focus was on Jones during the event, which was also the boxing night.
Jones and Pereira Enjoy the Moment
Jones and Pereira faced each other near the cage and greeted each other with handshakes. The two exchanged a few words before snapping a few with the cameras. They also met the famous social media personality ‘Nina Drama’ in an enjoyable moment and engaged in a dance, and it seemed like they were friends. Pereira is based in Connecticut, where he trains with Glover Teixeira, but he could migrate to New York, where Jones is training.
Alex Pereira said this to the ‘Full Send’ news. “I think there’s some good time between our fights, his fight is only in November There’s always something coming off a fight, a small injury, so we can get some rest and then train together.”
Besides that, Pereira pointed out the criticism people are leveling at Jones, and he said this for training with the legend. “He has a ton of experience, but people are talking about him maybe doing only one or two fights more, and I’m not even at heavyweight yet. I don’t know if that’s possible, but I want to at least be training with him.”
Final Thoughts
We have no information about their retirement of Jones, but we know that these were his last announced fights. He wanted another fight after Miocic, and Dana White would pressure him to go against Tom Aspinall because he had been working hard to get into a cage with him.
However, the possible match after Jones’ retirement would be between Tom Aspinall and Alex Pereira if he moves up a division. That would probably be the fight Dana Whtie and the fans want.
