Late NHL Star Johnny Gaudreau’s Widow Reveals Pregnancy At Memorial Service

Late star Johnny Gaudreau’s widow announced bittersweet news at his memorial service on Monday. Meredith Gaudreau wife of Johnny Gaudreau revealed she is pregnant with their third child. She called the pregnancy a “total surprise” but she was able to tell Johnny Gaudreau she was pregnant before he died.

Meredith and Johnny Gaudreau already have two children, a girl who will be turning two later this month and a little boy who was born earlier this year. Not only were both of the Gaudreau brothers gifted on the ice but off the ice they were both two young men who were outstanding, loving, and compassionate people. They were the kind of young men you hope your children will turn out to be someday.

Johnny Gaudreau’s Wife Announces Pregnancy

Meredith Gaudreau widow of  Johnny Gaudreau announced at his memorial service Monday that she is pregnant with their third child. She said that Johnny knew about the pregnancy before he died and he was elated with the news. She said, via ABC News:

“John and I had the best six months as a family of four. These will forever be the best six months of my life,”  “There’s specifically one week that I will cherish forever – it will be my favorite week of my life out of those six months. We’re actually a family of five. I’m in my ninth week of pregnancy with our third baby.”

She continued to say at the service, “In less than three years of marriage, we’ve created a family of five,” Meredith added. “It doesn’t even sound possible, but I look at it as the ultimate blessing. How lucky am I to be the mother of John’s three babies? Our last one being a blessing and so special despite these difficult circumstances.”

Circumstances Surrounding Gaudreau’s Death

Johnny Gaudreau played for the Columbus Blue Jackets and his brother Matthew Gaudreau also played hockey and was a coach were struck and killed by a drunk driver while riding their bikes in Salem County, New Jersey. The Gaudreau brothers were in New Jersey to attend their sister Katie’s wedding. The suspect Sean Higgins was arrested and charged with two counts of death by auto, along with reckless driving, possession of an open container, and consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle.

Matthew Gaurdeau’s wife Madeline is also pregnant and expected to have their first child at the time of his death. Johnny not only played for the Columbus Blue Jackets he also played for the Calgary Flames. He was selected by the Calgary Flames in the 2011 NHL Draft. He was the fourth round pick. He was with the Flames from 2013-2022 then played for the Blue Jackets from 2022-24. Last season he played 81 games, scored 12 goals, 48 assists, and 60 points. Around the NHL he was nicknamed “Johnny Hockey” for his incredible skill and ability.
