John Fisher Helped Create Las Vegas Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders and Oakland Athletics have some similarities.

Without John Fisher, the Oakland Raiders would still exist. Without Fisher, Oakland would still have the Oakland A’s as well. He single-handedly killed Oakland sports. It wasn’t just Fisher, as incompetence at every level needs to be blamed. Certainly, there are villains on both sides. But it can’t be forgotten that Fisher blocked the Oakland Raiders from being able to build a new stadium in Oakland.

Oakland Gave Fisher Everything

Las Vegas Raiders Owner Mark Davis was honest last year about how slimy the process was in terms of trying to get a new stadium deal. The biggest issue was that the city of Oakland and Alameda County sold the Oakland Coliseum site to Fisher, which prevented the Raiders from building a new stadium there. The city also deferred every potential site to Fisher, as they looked to get the A’s a stadium instead.

It’s impossible to get a new stadium built in a city where the city and county governments are giving another team the first right to every potential stadium site. While the Davis family didn’t do a great job with Oakland, the relocation of the Las Vegas Raiders is mostly due to Fisher blocking the Raiders from being able to build anywhere.

Las Vegas Hasn’t Been Great For Raiders

In a business sense, relocating to Las Vegas has been great for Mark Davis. He’s become a billionaire since the move, something that he likely couldn’t accomplish in Oakland. He’s also won multiple championships with the Las Vegas Aces in the WNBA. At the same time, the Las Vegas Raiders have been a failure on the field with only one winning season since they relocated.

Allegiant Stadium is a beauty to behold, but it’s taken over by the opposing team’s fans. It’s the most expensive ticket on average in the entire NFL, and it’s too expensive for most Raiders fans living in California. The Las Vegas Raiders don’t enjoy anywhere close to the same home-field advantage as they did in Oakland. This is despite having fans coming from Oakland and Los Angeles.

Fisher Is The Supervillain Of Sports Owners

As said by Scott Van Pelt on ESPN, “This is the worst sports can be.” The Oakland A’s and Oakland Raiders were staples of Bay Area culture. For the longest time, the A’s were more successful than the Giants until the cheap owners they had after Walter Haas neutered their chances of winning.

Fisher destroyed Oakland’s professional sports for his monetary gain. Even worse is that he had so many offers to sell the team, all of which would’ve been more financially rewarding than the potentially doomed relocation to Vegas. Fisher still hasn’t secured funding yet, and he is going to have to spend more to relocate than they would’ve spent to stay in Oakland.
