Joel Embiid 3 Games By NBA For Locker Room Altercation

Joel Embiid was suspended by the league for his recent altercation with a reporter.

Joel Embiid had an altercation with Philadelphia Inquirer reporter Marcus Hayes. This argument happened after the Memphis Grizzlies game which the Sixers lost. Also, things got heated up between these two because Hayes mentioned Embiid’s family in his article, questioning the All-NBA center’s why. Hayes made this statement in his article:

“Joel Embiid consistently points to the birth of his son, Arthur, as the major inflection point in his basketball career. He often says that he wants to be great to leave a legacy for the boy named after his little brother, who tragically died in an automobile accident when Embiid was in his first year as a 76er. Well, in order to be great at your job, you first have to show up for work. Embiid has been great at just the opposite.”

During the altercation, the Sixers center shoved the columnist. As a result, the NBA suspended Joel Embiid for three games as per Shams Charania. He will be unavailable against the Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, and Charlotte Hornets. Also, the All-NBA center will make his debut against the New York Knicks.

Sixers Outlook With Joel Embiid

Joel Embiid hasn’t played a game yet this season. As we haven’t gotten an update on his health status, the possibility looms that the Sixers center will make his debut after the suspension. Also, this suspension should help Embiid evaluate his knee’s progress.

The New York Knicks kicked out the Philadelphia 76ers out of the 2024 NBA Playoffs in the first round. Also, the team acquired Karl-Anthony Towns, who has some history with Joel Embiid. Given that KAT and Embiid stay healthy, this matchup will be a spectacle when they meet again. A line projection featuring the Sixers center includes Tyrese Maxey, Paul George, Joel Embiid, Caleb Martin, and Kelly Oubre Jr. With Embiid on the roster, the Sixers have more offensive firepower. Also, Martin and Oubre perform better in supporting roles.

Philadelphia’s Lineup Moves

Andre Drummond would come in as the backup center while Guerschon Yabusele focuses on playing the power forward position. Jared McCain, Eric Gordon, and Kyle Lowry can rotate with Oubre and Maxey. It also boils down to the opposing team’s size. If Embiid starts next week on Wednesday, he could be on a minutes restriction because the Sixers franchise plans to keep the center healthy for the 2025 playoffs. Now that Paul George is available, the Sixers will remain competitive till Embiid returns.

The Philadelphia 76ers are 1-5 through six games after a tough loss against the Phoenix Suns. Moving forward, the team will face the Los Angeles Clippers tonight. They then play against the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday.

Final Thoughts

While Joel Embiid got suspended by the NBA, Marcus Hayes should get a warning, too. Hayes crossed the line after involving Embiid’s family in his article because the All-NBA center hasn’t played a match since the 2024-25 season started. Also, we should expect a Sixers comeback from this losing streak.
