The 29-year-old Manchester City fullback Joao Cancelo who spent the whole of last season on loan in Barcelona returns to the Etihad but, as we all know, he fell out of favor with the manager. Cancelo was one of the players that were the main beckon for Pep’s tactical puzzle, reports are that he is exploring new opportunities with the Serie A giants.
This move will see Cancelo back in Serie A. He previously played for both Inter and Juventus, in the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons respectively. His talent was appreciated during this time and both two clubs would want his signature. His attacking prowess and experience could be a valuable addition to either club.
Joao Cancelo Willingness to Return
This report has surprised many, considering Cancelo playing in the Serie A for both the two clubs, and we thought Barcelona would want to retain him for one more season. Perhaps Barcelona’s new manager Hansi Flick does not have any plans with him, or the financial woes cannot allow the club to sign another loan deal.
Serie A is an attractive destination for the player, that is where he started his journey in a big club. This league is not a new ground for him, he is familiar with the playing styles, tactics, and even the culture of both the clubs. His experience in both attacking and defending would perfectly fit in the club.
Cancelo enjoyed his time with Juventus, he thrived in a system that demanded discipline and defensive solidity, while still allowing him to showcase his attacking talent on the flanks. He won the Scudetto with the club, and he would want to return and recreate the past glory. He could also be motivated by the prospect of proving himself again in the league where he first established himself as a top player.
Transfer Details
Cancelo is determined to move out of Manchester City, he even has shown willingness for a pay cut to make a transfer happen. However, the club is asking €25 million to part ways with the Portuguese defender. This price tag might hinder clubs from purchasing him.
That price tag is considered high for a player getting into his 30s. With this money, clubs would consider signing a young prospect who can grow with the club and be impactful. Joao Cancelo has few years playing at the top level even one year and since he left City on loan deals with Bayern and Barcelona, his performances have been underwhelming.
Looking Forward
Juventus especially with the new manager Thiago Motta would be looking to get Cancelo as he will compliment his playing tactical philosophy. His familiarity with the club will allow him to adapt to various systems and this will be advantageous for the Old Lady.
Both Inter and Juventus will be looking to get the signature of Cancelo, and fans will eagerly be looking forward to seeing him grace the pitches of Serie A again. Both the clubs will be looking to boost their defense and attack at once and having him in your squad you are assured the team will have a player that can defend and attack.
We cannot wait to see Cancelo in the Serie A either with Inter or the Old Lady.
