Joan Mir is in his second season already as a factory Honda MotoGP rider and remains optimistic for the future and intends to change his fortunes. Still, this season has not been easy for Mir, who won the World Championship in 2020. This has been his best record so far having once finished ninth during the Spanish Sprint. And while Honda’s factory team struggles with its performance, Joan Mir stays positive as he knows that he can only get better.
Post-Austrian GP Efforts: Joan Mir Getting Ready for Aragon
After a disastrous performance in the Austrian GP where the highest-finishing Honda rider was Takaaki Nakagami of LCR MotoGP, Joan Mir said that the team had been busy during the off-season. Mir is always up for the challenge to race at Aragon since he scored a podium finish in that circuit last year. Reflecting on his approach to the upcoming race, he said that
The approach for the weekend will be similar to the past races where we will work on what we need to work on and see what’s possible when the lights go out on Saturday and Sunday.” Mir’s focus is clear—improvement and preparation are key as he looks to better his results.

Joan Mir’s Repsol Honda teammate, Luca Marini, is also coming to emerge from his retirement as an HRC competitor in the Austrian GP. Hailing his three previous starts at MotoGP MotorLand, Marini recorded his season-best of seventh on the grid this year. In Moto2, he was fourth in 2019, but he did prove what he was made of at the Aragon round.
This is because as Marini prepares to milestones the Aragon Grand Prix. The main achievement he wants and has in mind is how his performance will be compared to the other Honda riders. Marini speaking of MotoGP’s one-year absence from racing at Aragon said it will slightly affect the race on the newly resurfaced track.
Mir and Marini agree that more difficulties and tough times are ahead for them but the latter is not afraid to climb up the ranks. The first-year absence provides the two riders with the prospect of showing off their skills in the same terrain of Aragon. Of all the drivers, Marini is especially concerned with maximizing the opportunities to race on the track.
In Conclusion
During the season, Joan Mir and Luca Marini have experienced difficult moments, but they are eager to overcome them and look forward to the Aragon GP. For Mir it is important to keep up the effort that Honda has been making since Austrian GP, for Marini the critical moment is to compare his progress with other Honda riders.
Both riders know this race is decisive for changing their poor season and are willing to deal with what Aragon has to offer. Primarily, the interviewees’ willingness to improve indicates that Mir and Marini should be able to leverage their experiences and strive for better performance in future races.
