Speaking ahead of Aston Villa’s UEFA Champions League game against Bundesliga giants, Bayern Munich on the Clarets and Blue Aston Villa podcast, Fletcher highlighted Duran’s fierce determination, natural striking ability, and impressive finishing skills, dubbing him a potential superstar.
John Duran’s Goal Against Everton is Astonishing
“He’s one of my favorite Premier League players because I think that’s what a striker should be like,” Fletcher said. “I think he would kick his sister to score a goal. All he wants to do is score.”
Darren Fletcher was particularly impressed by Duran’s instinct in front of goal, mentioning the technique he displayed in a recent match against Everton. “The goal he scored at the weekend is astonishing, the whips and bend he gets on that,” Fletcher added. “I love him, and the question I have is if he was really available for £40 million in the summer, how on earth is he still at Aston Villa? Watkins said that Duran’s goal was a moment of magic. He emphasized that everyone is aware of Duran’s capabilities, and when given the chance, he consistently delivers exceptional performances.

I think he’s just brilliant, I really like, I think is my favorite villain player. I like Morgan (Morgan Rogers), but more Jhon Duran please, I think he’s great”

Darren Fletcher also suggested that Duran could soon replace Aston Villa’s current forwards and become a key player for the club, noting that his development would benefit both the player and Aston Villa as a whole. The 20-year-old has made a brilliant start to the new season under Unai Emery, netting five goals in eight appearances for Aston Villa across all competitions. Remarkably, most of his goals have come as a substitute.
