Jerry Jones Confirms GM Status in 2025

Dallas Cowboys Jerry Jones

The Dallas Cowboys have been one of the few teams that do not have a traditional general manager. Instead, owner Jerry Jones sits as the defacto general manager of the team ever since purchasing the team prior to the 1989 season. There have been a lot of people who have been vocal regarding this and believe the Dallas Cowboys could be in a better position if Jerry Jones were to hire a traditional general manager, but it seems that is not going to be the case. Let’s take a look at Jerry Jones’s comment about this and discuss what this means going forward for the Dallas Cowboys.

The Dallas Cowboys failed to make the playoffs this season and finished the year with a 7-10 record. They could blame this on injuries to quarterback Dak Prescott, among others, but that would just be placing the blame at someone else’s feet. Jerry Jones has been the general manager of the Cowboys since purchasing the team and has no interest of losing that position, as he discussed after the 23-19 home loss in Week 18 to the Washington Commanders.

“I didn’t buy an investment. I bought an occupation. I bought something I was going to do. I was 46. I bought something that I was going to do for the rest of my life, and that’s what I’m doing.”

The Pro Football Hall of Famer wants to remain the general manager of the Dallas Cowboys and he is going to stay as owner Jerry Jones says so. The Cowboys are about to enter one of the more interesting offseasons after not signing or drafting a running back last season and losing some major pieces on both sides of the football.
