Former NBA players Evan Turner and Jeff Teague thought Dallas Mavericks point guard Luka Doncic was “lazy” and “not doing enough” in an episode of the “Club 520 Podcast” in recent days. Teague, 36, is a sports podcast host, a head coach for the Pike Red Devils at Pike High School in Indianapolis, Indiana, and a former NBA point guard from 2009 to 2021.
Teague’s recent conversation with Turner, 35, about Doncic, 25, was interesting, to say the least. Read on for further details surrounding the conversation between the two former NBA players.
Jeff Teague’s Initial Thoughts About Luka Doncic
Luka Doncic is currently one of the best players in the NBA, but not everyone was sold on Doncic, including Evan Turner and Jeff Teague. Turner was an assistant coach for the Boston Celtics during the NBA’s 2020 COVID-19 season, while Teague was a backup point guard for the Celtics. Here’s more on the story.
According to Sporting News, Turner said, “We would be on the back of the bench and have these crazy debates, and I was the first one to tell him how cold Luka (Doncic) was.”
Teague told Turner, “He was like, I don’t know, this man kind of like lazy, he is just not doing enough for me, he is whining, he doesn’t run up the court.” Teague and Turner’s conversation on the “Club 520 Podcast” was to be continued, but the two former NBA players shared an arguably unpopular opinion, as Doncic turned out to be a good NBA player.
Jeff Teague Echoes Evan Turner’s Sentiments
Jeff Teague echoed Evan Turner’s sentiments in the same “Club 520 Podcast” episode. Teague initially doubted that Luka Doncic was all he was hyped to be as an NBA player. The Boston Celtics had a huge lead in the game against the Dallas Mavericks, and Teague wasn’t sold on Doncic.
Turner said in the “Club 520 Podcast” episode, “He said bro, are you sure and I said he was going to turn it on. He is really him. We were up by 10 or 12. He said (Jaylen Brown) and (Jayson Tatum) are going to get rid of this man, and I said it might not look good now, but in the clutch, if they get close, we are not going to win.”
The Mavericks started to reel in the Celtics, which led to Teague and Turner being on the edge of their seats. Turner said, “They call a time out, and I think they are down two, and Jeff (Teague) is like, ain’t no way, and I said I am telling you. Left step back, and he hit the game-winner. He learned about Luka Doncic that day.”
Jayson Tatum Questions His Game Vs. Luka Doncic’s
Evan Carter and Jeff Teague talked about a Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks game in a recent “Club 520 Podcast” episode. The Celtics and Mavericks’ game was reportedly so shocking that even Celtics star forward Jayson Tatum questioned his own game compared to Luka Doncic’s game.
Teague said in the recent podcast episode, “(Jayson) Tatum was like, is Luka (Doncic) better than me? And (Evan Turner) was like, damn near.”
Teague’s revelation about Tatum, 26, was arguably attention-grabbing and eye-opening. Tatum’s initial self-doubt didn’t destroy him but put him on a positive path to becoming one of the best NBA players, along with a 2024 NBA champion.
