Jaylen Brown Uses Music to Describe Two Dallas Mavericks

jaylen brown

Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown recently used music to compare guarding two Dallas Mavericks stars Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. Brown, 27, made headlines with his interesting way of describing Doncic, 25, and Irving, 32, after doing a great defensive job on Doncic and Irving in the 2024 NBA Finals. As a result, Brown won the NBA Finals MVP and was widely considered the biggest difference maker for the green and white.

Brown is a star in his own right, averaging 23.9 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game while shooting a 51.6% field goal percentage in the 2024 NBA postseason. He has several talents, such as athleticism, defense, driving ability, decision-making, and facilitating. Read on for the full story surrounding his recent words.

Jaylen Brown’s Words

According to a recent Sports Illustrated article, Jaylen Brown recently appeared on the “Hot Ones” show with Sean Evans. Evans, 38, asked Brown about studying a player’s rhythm and if there was an NBA player who had a unique flow.

Brown told Evans, “Luka (Doncic) has a unique rhythm … It’s almost so slow that it’s hard to time. Kyrie (Irving) has a unique rhythm, as well, very one-of-one. His moves and his cadences, it’s sometimes very, very hard to time. He has a lot of counter moves, he can pivot off both feet. He can shoot with both hands. He can drive both directions, which makes his rhythm harder to track… I look at basketball as poetry in motion, which is music. Everybody is playing their song… If you want to stop them you gotta learn when their beat is about to drop.”

Brown’s description of Doncic and Irving was interesting but perfectly understandable. The Dallas Mavericks’ offense can be hard to guard, even for the best NBA players in the business at times. Doncic and Irving are two of the most unique players in the NBA, and players like Brown must have extra patience and anticipation to be in front of them without fouling.

Jaylen Brown and the Boston Celtics

Jaylen Brown and the Boston Celtics did great against Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and the Dallas Mavericks in the 2024 NBA Finals. The Celtics’ three home games at the TD Garden were stellar, as the Celtics held Irving, a former Boston Celtic from 2017 to 2019, to around 14 points per game.

Although Doncic scored around 30 points per game, he had to work for each point since his atypical skip passes to the corners were often cut short by the Celtics’ players. Doncic’s workload appeared to be increased, especially in the Finals.

Background of Jaylen Brown

Aside from a shooting guard, Jaylen Brown can also play small forward. Brown is a Marietta, Georgia, native who attended Cal from 2015 to 2016. He reportedly took a masters-level course in Cal’s Cultural Studies of Sport in Education program during his first semester in college and gained fluency in Spanish. He was selected with the third overall pick in the first round of the 2016 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics.

Brown made his NBA debut with the Celtics on October 26, 2016, in the Celtics’ 122-117 win over the Brooklyn Nets for a season-opening victory. He scored nine points on three-for-four shooting while adding two blocks in 19-plus minutes.
