After the 2025 NBA All-Star Game, Gary Washburn asked Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown about the potential of bringing an All-Star Weekend to Boston. Brown responded with love for Boston fans saying, “They got the craziest fans in the world in Boston… it kinda seemed like it was a little empty in here tonight. I don’t think in Boston that would happen.”
This year’s All-Star festivities were held in the Chase Center in San Francisco, home of the Golden State Warriors. Brown scored 12 points for Shaq’s OGs, as they went on to win the competition.
Jaylen Brown’s All-Star Weekend
Brown’s answer to Washburn’s question capped off an All-Star weekend full of highs and lows for Brown and the NBA. Brown was drafted into Shaquille O’Neal’s team branded the OGs. The team was full of stars and household names like LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and Kyrie Irving. The new format of the All-Star games put them in a four-team tournament with Charles Barkley’s team of international stars, Kenny Smith’s team of young stars, and the winning team from the Rising Stars Challenge. Each game was played to 40 points, and Brown had his share of highlight plays.
Brown’s best All-Star highlight was on a fast break. He caught an alley-oop from Irving and threw down an emphatic dunk. Brown’s best game was against the Rising Stars, where he scored 8 points on 4-of-5 shooting. He had a couple of lowlights as well. He airballed a three-pointer and missed a layup, but his team won the final against Chuck’s international stars 41-25. Brown’s teammate, Jayson Tatum, led the final game in scoring with 15 points. The MVP went to Curry. He scored 12 points in the final game including a three-pointer from halfcourt.
An All-Star Weekend In Boston
The possibility of an All-Star Weekend in Boston is intriguing. Boston has not hosted an All-Star game since 1964. That is a 61-year gap. In that time, almost every other NBA franchise has hosted the event. As Brown said, Boston is one of the biggest sports markets in the country. The fans are passionate, selling out nearly every home game in the TD Garden. With the long drought, Boston fans would likely jump at the chance to fill an arena for the All-Star events.
The Celtics star also commented that it seemed empty in the Bay Area. The All-Star events were met with conflicting fanfare. The new format of the game gave some cool moments but also had significant criticism. There were highlights and flashes of improved effort, but the games were played to 40 points. In an All-Star environment, that does not take long to reach. Also, the games were stopped with performances, segments with Kevin Hart, the NBA on TNT hosts, and constant commercials. So, on a night meant to be celebrating the stars of the NBA, there was very little basketball. This could be a cause for the lapsed fanfare or simple disinterest from San Francisco.
Holding the All-Star Game in the TD Garden would not fix the NBA’s issues with the game, but it may generate more fan interest due to the 61-year drought. Boston sports fans are, as Brown says, “the craziest fans in the world.” They may not be universally loved, but they would show out for an All-Star Weekend.
Final Thoughts
Brown made many highlight plays during his All-Star Weekend, but the biggest talking point among Celtics fans is the possibility of an All-Star Game coming to Boston. If it were to happen fans would show out adorning Brown and Tatum with raucous cheers.
